Oh no way. I was still on pain meds for one. Secondly it takes a couple of days for the anesthesia to wear off. I highly recommend not doing this. Do you not have a ride?

Well ... that is quite the question as everybody has different experiences.

I was outpatient, in at 7 and out by noon. As you can imagine, there is no possible way I could have driven myself. I was still quite drugged.

Other folks are in for anywhere from one night to a week. So, I think it all depends on how long you stay at the hospital, if you have any complications and how well you have responded to surgery in the past.

Just because one person was able to drive home after one night in the hospital doesn't mean you will be able to ...

My surgery was September 23 and the next evening, I drove myself home-45 minute drive. My surgery went well and I did not require any pain meds. My surgeon said that as long as I was "legal" to drive, he had no problem with it. It might have been a different story if I had required pain meds. You should discuss it with your surgeon.

Did any of you drive yourself home from the hospital? How was that?

Wow my hospital will not release me unless I have someone pick me up. No driving for me.

I had my surgery Monday. Not only was I Not allowed to drive home, I am still not allowed to drive. I have to be cleared by my surgeon and no longer be on pain meds. My follow up with the surgeon is the endof next week.

I didn't drive myself home, but I did drive the day I got home. I wasn't taking pain meds except at night and I was fine. I was actually not supposed to for like a week - but I couldn't help it. I had to drive a little.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
