Can anyone refer me...

Recommended Posts

So yes, I went to my seminar and got all of my paperwork done. I thought that I had hit a lucky streak when I realized that I had a shrink appointment the following Wednesday. I figured that i'd just have my psych eval with my normal psychiatrist but when I went to the appointment and asked him to do it he said that the clinic doesn't allow their doctors to do them! I don't know if he was being lazy or what but I want to move forward with the process and I want to do it as soon as possible. I was really disappointed with the whole thing.

Anyway...I decided to keep pushing ahead and I tried to find a doctor that specializes in working with bariatric patients but the list of providers that my insurance has doesn't list specialties. I called Barix and they said that the only referrals that they have are for doctors who don't take insurance. This message board is choc-full of info and I was hoping that one of you may be able to point me in the right direction. If you liked the doctor that you saw for your psych eval please let me know! I live out near Princeton but I am willing to travel anywhere in NJ (within reason). Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Jessica

I just had my psych eval with Pam Kance Brolin - Family Therapy Associates. On Route 1 North, in Monmouth Junction (a couple of miles north of Forrestal Village). She is the wife of Dr. Robert Brolin of NJ Bariatrics. She was terrific, and of course is well versed in weight loss surgery patients. If you need more info, let me know and I'll send you her contact info.

I hope to get approval soon!

Good luck to you.

maybe change doctors. Mine let me go to my norm. In fact, he wrote a letter in support of my surgery. My insurance would not pay for their psycko but paid for mine. I was stuck with their dietician though. My new doc disagrees with alot of what she told me. Where do you live?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
