I have a rant! I have a co-worker that's constantly complaining, says off the wall comments to me. Likes to be a drama queen per say. Yesterday at work we had a confrontation, which she started. My surgery is the 28. I don't want to lose my job, but I want so bad to read her loud annoying a$$. She belittled me right in front of my co-workers. I bet she feels like I'm her puppet. Now would you handle her in a professional way? Lord please give me strength!

You can't control how others act in the workplace, no matter how hard you try. I know the feeling and can empathize. Don't engage in her antics. If she confronts you in front of others, calmly ask her "isn't there a more professional way we can handle this?" Don't stoop to her level. Maintain YOUR professionalism always. Even take her aside and explain that you do not appreciate her discussing issues with you in front of others and ask in the future for her to take you aside. Granted, this could have no impact whatsoever, but you have to give it a try.

I have gotten more response from workers when I point out that behavior is not professional / inappropriate or they are being disrespectful.

Is she a peer? or does she have position over you?

Do you have a HR dept or manager/boss you can talk to about this?

Do your best to stay calm, dont' let anyone else dictate how you behave. The second you engage in her type of behavior , no matter how justified, you become part of the problem.

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!!

Good Morning :)

I would just also add, in my experience, it is very apparent to others what an uprofessional jerk this person is. The others may not say anything to you, but I am sure they are empathizing and siding with you. chin up buckaroon.

I agree completely with Jersey girl. What you want to ensure you do is know your companies policies in how everyone should be treated and be that. If she is hostile and you are fearful if her......well that's a whole if fervent ball game. HR is your friend in that case. Using the the words "unprofessional" is how you get your point across to her without accusing her. Our egos are powerful and want to take over. You've done good! Stay calm, cool, collected, and use your HR policy book to your advantage if need be. No one ah nod ever have to work in a demeaning environment. Best to you!
