Exactly what i didnt want to hear a week before my surgery

Recommended Posts

O my hubby comes home today and says...remember that lady I told you about that died? She had gastric bypass last year and had some kind of a leak. She had a stroke and died. Are you sure you still want to do this? ... Really exactly what I didn't need to hear.

Keep your chin up and think of all of the positive "side effects" of the sleeve. There are dangers in everything you do, this is about you and being the best you can be!

I'd kill my husband. There's risk with everything. Bypass is a lot more riskier than the sleeve.

He couldn't understand why I was upset. Really? Like this isn't the biggest thing on my mind

i just looked it up and a leak with bypass is muuuuccchhh more serious than a leak with sleeve. Also, much more common. 1 to 3 percent leakage with bypass and it is the most serious complication there is. Educate him and make sure he knows it's not the same thing.

Just like pregnancy, huh? People can't hold back from telling you horrendous, usually inaccurate, stories! The trouble is that you don't know what really happened, if the stroke even related to the bypass, so the story is useless except to undermine your confidence. Maybe time to review with him the positive reasons you are having the sleeve and get on the same page. Best wishes to you!

At work there is 3 other women in my building who had the bypass and they are perfectly healthy no problems. I was Sleeved in July of this year and feel wonderful no worries.

Yeah and a year ago my wonderful beautiful sister in law dropped dead of a sudden heart attack due to decades of packing around an extra 150# - but where is the fun in sharing THAT horror storty?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
