Week 8 post op. I gained a pound and I'm freaking out a little

Recommended Posts

My plan is/was to weigh myself once a week for the first two months, then start weighing myself every two weeks for a while. I only weigh myself first thing in the morning, in the same spot, same scale, with no clothes on. I even do my best to use the bathroom first (even though I barely ever poop anymore). Long story short, I weighed myself this past monday (10/7/13) and I weighed 295.8. For some reason, this morning (10/10/13) I felt the urge to check on my status and I weighed 296.8. I am now freaking out that I'm doing something wrong.

Someone tell me there isn't a problem please, so I can go back to enjoying my progress! Oh, and remind me how it's not good to step on a scale that often because it causes panic like this!

If you are having trouble pooping, that could easily account for your "weight gain." Poop weighs more than you might think. Or it could be Water weight or some weird bodily fluctuation or your scale malfunctioning. If you are following your surgeon's plan, consider it just a meaningless fluctuation unless it keeps going on this trajectory for three weeks or so.

Weight fluctuates like you wouldn't believe depending on what we've eaten the day before, if it's "that time of the month" and other factors. One pound isn't much, so don't sweat it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
