jatherley 126 Posted October 10, 2013 So I was talkin to my dad today. Kind of giving him an update on my progress. I'm 6 weeks post-op 55 lbs down total (between pre-op and post). I was explaining that my doctor wants me to try getting in my Protein calories by eating more often. Since I can't eat very much at a time. And what does he say? "I wish you wouldn't have gone so drastic and had so much of your stomach removed" Really? Like I would have been able to go to the surgeon and said "Hi there. I'm obese and I know you normally remove 80% of the stomach but I'd like to still eat food afterwards so can you remove say 50% instead? That'd be great. Thanks!" Bless him. I know he's worried and I explained that I'll be fine and that eating and drinking is getting easier everyday. He doesn't understand why I did it and doesn't understand the procedure or process. I try to keep a good spirit and elected to be amused instead irritated by these type of comments. 2 READY4CHANGE2013 and 1SuperBonBon reacted to this

magtart 603 Posted October 10, 2013 Bless his heart! He just loves you and wants the best for you. I wish I still had my mom or dad alive to worry about me. 2 SuperFab and Beach Lover reacted to this

1SuperBonBon 221 Posted October 10, 2013 That was just adorable. I tried to specifically request an extra tiny tummy from my surgeon. But no luck there. He said he uses a standard size.
thinnerdaysahead 48 Posted October 10, 2013 No one will ever love you like your dad, but I know what you mean about well intended, irritating comments. My mom still asks if I'm on my diet. I know she means well - just wish she wouldn't go there.
jatherley 126 Posted October 10, 2013 When I first told my parents what I was thinking about doing they tried scaring me by telling me nightmare stories of people they met or that we are related to that's had stomache surgery. Either for weight loss (band for one relative), removal of portions of stomache and intestines due to medical issues. Some of whom almost died or have colopstapy bags or in one case a guy that had to eat every two hours. If he didn't he'd end up in the hospital. When they figured out I wasn't changing my mind they started listening to my ramblings about the process and the changes I need to make. I could always hear the disaproval in their voices. But like I explained I'm an adult and can make up my own mind. Doesn't do me any good to get mad at them. I know they are concerned. The best bet for me is being amused. I can just imagine the look on my sergeons face if I would have gone in and asked for half a stomach.
