Not hungry at breakfast time

Recommended Posts

Since I had VSG, I am NEVER hungry in the morning, is this normal? Does anyone else have this. I have been making myself eat but some days it is soooo hard. Just wondering if I am alone with this?

Nope, you're not alone. I don't start getting 'hungry' until after 3pm... It concerns me...

You are not alone. I keep telling myself Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but I struggle too. Usually I'll start the morning off with a 16 oz. glass of Water, then eat. I try to choke down some cottage cheese or greek yogurt, but it often seems like I'm eating brunch, not breakfast. :)

It is concerning to me as well. The afternoons are always so much better for me. AND I find I am able to eat more in the evenings. I can't even get down a whole egg in the mornings, but in the afternoon I can eat a wheel of cheese and a 1/2 of a cheddar pumpkinseed cracker...It seems way larger than the egg!

I had read about this on this forum before getting sleeved and I asked my surgeon about it. To summarize what he told me:

With the fundus pretty much being removed along with the major part of the gherlin production, the "normal" hunger feelings are going to change. Your body will learn it's signals when nutritionally, you are running short. Take time to learn your body's signals and try to learn what it is you need. Focus on nutritionally balanced meals once your capacity goes up, and the hunger cravings will balance and you will know when to eat.

For the first couple months, I had to set a reminder on my phone as I was always forgetting to eat lunch. But once I found my groove, breakfast, lunch and dinner no longer became chores.

I start my day with a scoop of Protein Powder in my coffee. I'm not hungry in the morning so I don't force myself to eat. I NEVER have a problem reaching my 1240 daily calories or meeting my Protein goals so why force myself to eat in the AM?

I've been resisting the setting alarm idea - it seems counter intuitive to have to remind myself to eat - but it's beginning to make sense.

Don't know about you guys, but I do tend to go more than 2-3 hours between meals, what with the Water drinking and life in general getting in the way.

All my life I struggled with not being able to eat in the mornings. My sister thinks this contribtes to my weight problems. I wonder whats it gonna be like after the sleeve.

I get hungry in the afternoons...that's not an issue...it's just the mornings that I have to force-feed myself!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
