December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I was told the following:

Stage 1 is no food by mouth. This would happen immediately after the surgery until everything was stabilized

Stage 2 is clear liquid only. This would start and be complete in the hospital.

Stage 3 is full liquids, which includes Protein Drinks, Jello, Popsicles etc. My program requires 3 weeks on full liquids

Stage 4 is puréed/ soft foods. I am required to see the NUT before I can proceed to this stage. It is intended to last 5 weeks

Stage 5 is eat anything with a gradual increase in dense Proteins over time

Hey group -- As of today, I'm officially sleeved! Surgery was easy peasy, and I've been doing good since. I've attached a hospital selfie and a pic of my first post-op meal. Actually getting lots of liquids in, so that's good. I was so worried about not being able to take in liquids, but since 4:00, I've taken in 4 small bowls of broth, two cups of Decaf tea, and some ice chips. Had a difficult time with sugar-free Jello and sugar-free popsicles, though. Not sure if it was the texture, weight/volume, temperature, sweetener, etc. whatever it was, I couldn't handle more than a couple tiny bites of each. I'll try them again at a later date when I have no swelling in my teeny-tiny belly.

As for pain, my doc used a tap block instead of a pain pump, but evidently, pain relief from that doesn't kick in until 24 hours or so. Taking pain meds by IV now. I am having pain, but it's more muscle soreness than anything else. I have been up to walk laps, but even before then, I wasn't having any unmanageable gas pains. Feeling very happy with what seems to be a good outcome. Be blessed, everyone!

Hey everyone! surgery was yesterday, i feel overall soo much better than i thought i would! ice packs help and my dilaudid pca. Biggest problem is cotton mouth! everytime i eat an ice chip it hurts my stomach, i can definitely tell its swollen. Docs started me on toradol and decadron. Hopefully i will be able to get some liquids in. Good luck today sleevers, it feels amazing to be on the other side!!

My nerves are really kickin in ... SIX more days until my surgery (dec 10) but still no exact time yet... Aaaah

I am only required to have a one day liquid diet with an antibiotic the day prior. I can't imagine doing that for several weeks like some of you pre-op folks. Please pray for me to ease my nerves and relax! I've been working out and watching what I eat for the past 2 months after a long hiatus of doing nothin or doing it half ass. Hi all!

Was sleeved yesterday and getting ready to be discharged from the hospital any minute now. Everything went well, but I did have some wicked nausea. I'm a little surprised that I can move around so well. Ready for my own bed and get some uninterrupted rest.

Whats everyone drinking after surgery?? Protein shake wise. I know Slim Fast isn't good for you because of the sugar but the Slim Fast High Protein I have been drinking for my preop diet only has 2 sugars in it and the New Direction product that they want me to drink has 4...Kinda confused about that...Good Luck to everyone being sleeved this month!

Hello everyone. I was sleeved yesterday and wanted to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I am still in the hospital, I just did my swallow study they said they didn't see and thing alarming. I am waiting on my doctor to read the results so I can start Clear liquids. Those moistened cotton swab things are just not doing the trick.

I am in a lot of pain, which stinks. I had a hiatal hernia that the doc discovered and repaired during surgery. My pain is not a the incision sites it I above it on the right hand side. It is so painful tears come to my eyes when ever I have to sit or stand. I am staying another night due to the pain. This might be a little *** TMI so here is your chance to skip....okay last call......I am having a terrible time urinating it I like a 30-45 minute affair of staining and pushing down for a few drops at a time the doc said its a because of the morphine end TMI***

So long story short I am staying an extra night due to the extreme pain I am dealing with

I am thinking and praying for everyone getting sleeved today as well as those who have already been sleeved

I lol'd at ur tmi warning! At least u have a good sense of humor thru this. I am sry that ur in so pain but will pray that they get it under control b4 u leave. And trust the doc about the urinating situation. It'll come when some of the meds wear off. But glad to know that u came thru it well thus far, minus pain, bladder n hernia repair. Ur bodies been thru a lot in 24 hrs but it'll adjust. Take it easy n keep us in the know, Dee:). Ps, ur still in my prayers, all of u posties are:)
