December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

I think my hardest adjustment was the mental and emotional changes. The physical has been manageable. I actually went back to work 1 week and 2 days later (clinic nurse). It at least helped distract me and get back some sense of normalcy versus OBSESSING over what I could or could not do. I had been on an emotional rollercoaster at times (just like the surgeon told me could possibly happen). I thank God I haven't/didn't use food for comfort like I would have in the past. So far my weightloss is slow and steady (3 weeks post op and still anticipating the dreaded stall though). On average I get in all my Protein and Water with some days slacking a lil on the water. From one day to the next sometimes I was happy then sad, laughing then wanting to cry, hopeful then depressed and full of anxiety, positive then negative, motivated then discouraged...etc. Just an all out pity party of "woe is me"...LOL!!! I had to keep reminding myself why I did this. I realized I have to take control because I determine my success or failure. When I look at old pics, reflect on my numerous past FAILED weight loss attempts since I was a teenager, or see that now some of the jeans/sweats I wore 3 weeks ago now fit a lot looser...I get my a$$ back on track. Reading posts from everyone else also helped keep me going. Therefore I BEG each of you, as we go back to our "normal lives" and for some return to work, don't forget your December Sleever Family and please stay in touch with your updates or just Hi! THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST SUPPORT GROUP FOR ME!!!! THANKS EVERYONE AND I WISH YOU MUCH SUCCESS!!!!

Awesome post!!!

Thank you Mythgirl for your support. I have been in a stall for ten days but felt the need to have some caffeine. I am not too stressed about the stall; I take it as my body adjusting to my new sleeve and the fact that we are eating so much less. I am sure my body is in shock. I was able to lose 20 during the liquid diet and 11 since December 18 surgery date. So I am down 31 which is great. Every pound counts if I hadn't had the surgery I would be the same weight or more so the last thing I want to do is complain at this point. Thank you for responding you made my day.

I'm only doing measurements and pics each month. I'm sure there's no way I could keep up with weekly and I don't think I'd see much of a difference anyway.

I think that monthly will be my approach as well! My 1month anniversary is this next Thursday. I am only weighing my self on Thursdays. The addition of measurements is a great idea & I will be sure to do it. Would mentally be helpful if a stall occurs on the scale with numbers.

Great idea Thanks ;o)

I enjoy massages do that's my fast for myself because clothes and even sites could change sizes so quickly I don't want to invest it that.

I would suggest buy a watch or some jewelry ... Not an outfit or clothes because you will keep going on your journey. Do something for you. A massage right now for me doesn't sound all that appealing because I had surgery mid december and my body is not all the way there yet and I wouldn't enjoy the massage as much as I could ...

Btw: way to go!! Awesome to achieve the weight loss!! Keep on keeping on.

I would suggest a mani pedi and maybe a special spa pedi bc I don't like to spend too much money bc I'll be spending a lot on clothes in a few months hopefully! A massage is great but may be a lot if money. Also maybe a facial? Live facials!

Hi I have a question. I am four weeks out. Am I allowed to have a tall skinny latte with one pump of vanilla. I guess the real question is can I have an ounce of espresso once a day.

Mustang, I was told no caffeine for 6-8 weeks....so I'm thinking if there's no caffeine, have at it!

Hey Fostermama!

Congrats bc that is a big milestone! What about a new haircut? Or a new pair of shoes? Or you could do something that you have always wanted to do but stopped yourself because of weight?

I also like some of the other ideas like a mani/pedi, or a small piece of jewelry you can keep as a momentous.

Thanks so much for the great ideas!!! I love them all!! Now I'll have to decide what to do!! :) I do LOVE going to the spa!!! And jewelry is a great alternative to clothes. I haven't had a haircut in six months. So that's also a very practical idea!! Oh the possibilities! :)

Although I have 26 more lbs to go to be in Onederland, I was thinking the same thing today. What can I do to Celebrate my victory. I will allow myself a LITTLE treat, but I wear a Pandora Bracelet, so I am going to get myself a new charm! To me, From me!!!
Congratulations on your upcoming victory!!!!

Hi everyone! I'm Sabrina, I'm 24 height 5'4 and I currently weigh 195 my goal weight is 105. I got my surgery dec. 21st 2013 starting out at 215 pounds so I've lost exactly 20 pounds in one month. I think I should have lost more it seems like most people do. How much weight have some of the other December members lost? One of the only issues I'm struggling with right now is Protein. How are we supposed to get all that protein without sucking down a million calories? It seems like every drink has so few g's of protein but soo many calories. Has anyone found a good low calorie high Protein Drink? Or found Andy foods they are fond of that are high in protein low calorie?

Hi, Sabrina. I have struggled from the beginning with protein. The shake I found that, to me, tastes the best is Premier Protein chocolate shakes. They are 11oz with 160 calories and 30g of protein. The puréed and soft food stage has been difficult for me. These shakes have gotten me through. I was sleeved on 12/2. Good luck. Reading these posts everyday has made a huge impact on me. Everyone is so helpful and encouraging. Keep up the good work! We did the hard part and now we just have to adjust!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
