Hi all,

Got sleeved dec 16. Someone was talking about left shoulder pain and I've had that too. Does anyone know why? I know they have me a lovinox shot there but I didn't know if that was why it was hurting. I only got in 30 g of Protein yesterday and today only 15 g so far And I'm having a hard time getting liquids in too bc I don't want to push myself too hard but my mom keeps yelling at me to keep drinking!! Have only been walking a little because I'm still very sore and tender. And I went on the scale and only lost like 2 lbs since surgery on Monday. How has everyone lost so much in such a sort amt of time? Anyone not lose a lot like me? I know it's only been 3 and a half days but it seems like people on here have lost 10 lbs in like 3 or 4 days!! Help!

The most common reason for the shoulder pain is trapped gas from surgery. Walking is supposed to help but since you're not getting a lot in, I've seen others talk about using a heating pad to the area.

I'm 6 days out and declining in recovery (not serious, just feeling worse than better). Drinking the fluids seems like a full time job. Just today I started with the suggestion of literally setting a timer on my phone to take in 2 oz every 15 minutes. I've been feeling so full and didn't know if I was drinking too fast or too much, so following the timer guideline, I feel better about that.

Yes Atlanta Red I had terrible left shoulder pain when I awoke from surgery. I really stayed on top of the pain though the night. Had my surgery yesterday had a drain in and that was the cause of pain. I got the drain out this am and the pain is much less. I'm still sore there but not the sharp pain I had before. So far no nausea and I'm able to drink fine. I started Protein Shakes this afternoon ok so far. I hope to go home tomorrow. Yeah

Thanks so much! I am one of the new hosts here, I had my surgery in 2010 and indeed it was successful. This is one of three forum areas that I oversee along with other vets. I could really use the prayer for another year. I am already several years past where my cancer docs predicted I would die. I am as healthy as I was in my 20's now, God's grace and this surgery has brought me back from the brink.

Well Amen!

Mine still hurts (13th) I don't even try to bend over. Too afraid of popping a stitch somewhere. Standing and sitting are the worst. Sorry, I'm no help. I do know that I'm not usual so I wouldn't base anything in my experience. Hope you feel better soon!

No shoulder pain whatsoever for me -- i was really expecting it too

Just lots of wishy washy sounds around my belly and abdomen

Some minor incision pain but I can live with that for a while -- only 4 small to medium incisions for me

Worst pain is the sliding hiatal hernia repair in the middle of my chest as I've mentioned 99x before --- OY!!!!!!!!

Almost finished with my entire day 7 and no roxicet (hope I can make it without it by bedtime) yay!!!

Hernia pain comes and goes now but I took a long outdoor walk and think that made me a bit stronger

Got a pedicure and manicure today and feeling really pretty after several days of mucho pain and discomfort.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries everyone!

Greeting and best wishes to all December sleevers!

I am one of the hosts on this forum and I have a request.

December is my birthday, 65 this month.

Give me the gift of having a very successful surgery!

:) :) :)

How about a birthday prayer that God will bless you with another year and a successful surgery and healthy recovery:) we r here for u. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Thanks so much! I am one of the new hosts here, I had my surgery in 2010 and indeed it was successful. This is one of three forum areas that I oversee along with other vets. Wow! I can definitely relate to the cancer thing. I'm a 4x survivor and pretty much was told my advanced cancer (stage 3b) was not good and it re-occurs often and most women with my type of cancer usually died within five years. Well, I'm still here and it's been six years...and I don't plan on going anywhere except down on the scale. I send you my blessings and a well full of good thoughts... I'm in remission and hope to stay there.. in a month or so I have to go back on maintenance chemo, but it's not a harsh treatment and its every 3 weeks. But oncologist was completely on board for WLS..since morbid obesity contributes significantly to woman's gynecological cancers.

We are survivors! We all are because in some form or fashion, we've all survived something...

Hugs and love...

Hi Shelly,

One thing I have been told throughout this whole process is that no one goes through the same process (I know that sounds so cliche).

I can tell you that I am 8 days post op, and still can't bend without pain. I also can't be on my feet for more than about 4 or 5 minutes before my large incision starts to hurt. I was just finally able to sleep on my side for the first time last night.

I can tell you that between yesterday and today, I feel marked improvement...I thought by a week, I'd be doing great....not so much yesterday...was feeling quite icky....but woke up this morning feeling quite a bit of improvement...

The worst part is dropping the soap in the shower and having to call my hubby in to pick it up for me. :(

Hang in there...two days is so few...I was barely walking at 2 days. :)

Question for the group. Did your NUT or doc tell you exactly how much Protein you should be getting in every day on an individual basis or did they give you a generic minimum amount you should meet?

I'm asking because, my NUT/WLS actually gave me a way to measure how much protein I should be taking to maximize my weight loss based on my height. There's a formula that calculates it, for every inch you are over 5 feet. For instance, I'm 5'9, so that would be 9 x 5 = 45 +100 = 145/2.2=65.90 x 1.5 =98.85 minimum grams of protein I should be eating daily.

I told him, it's pretty much impossible right now, I'm maxing out at 84, he said that was fine for now, but I should reach for the 98.85 to max out weight loss.

So, I was just wondering has anyone else's doc or Nut used this method to determine how much protein or did they just give you a minimum amount?

Btw, I'm on to soft foods on Saturday, yippie!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
