Hi everyone! I'm Sabrina, I'm 24 height 5'4 and I currently weigh 195 my goal weight is 105. I got my surgery dec. 21st 2013 starting out at 215 pounds so I've lost exactly 20 pounds in one month. I think I should have lost more it seems like most people do. How much weight have some of the other December members lost? One of the only issues I'm struggling with right now is Protein. How are we supposed to get all that protein without sucking down a million calories? It seems like every drink has so few g's of protein but soo many calories. Has anyone found a good low calorie high Protein Drink? Or found Andy foods they are fond of that are high in protein low calorie?

I've had trouble with the protein as well. I'm not a shake or milk person so my Isopure drinks are really helping. They are fruity and clear so I can tolerate them. One bottle is 20oz of Fluid and 40g of protein. Great for getting both fluid and protein. They are sugar free and 160 calories per bottle. Now that I'm eating more I only drink half a bottle a day. You can get them online or at GNC.

Dec 30 sleeve. Lost 26 lbs so far ( 13 pre op and 13 post op) . I also think I should've lost a bunch more by now esp compared to others, but my doc doesn't seem concerned and thinks I need to manage my expectations. So... Onto protein - I've been drinking the Jay Robb whey protein shakes(got it at kroger, whole foods and i've also seen it on Amazon.com as well). It is a powder that you mix w skim milk. I get 12 g of protein from the milk + 25 g from the powder/mix (110 cal from mix and 120 from milk). I prefer the chocolate, but the vanilla is also awesome. I keep telling myself it is a melted milkshake :) He has other favors too and claims to be the best tasting protein on the planet. I haven't tried it myself, but also heard decent things about "Premier" shakes that are premixed. Something about mixing my own makes me feel better - less processed/cleaner. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for the Protein advice and I would love to keep up on here, things seems a lot more boring now until I find more things to do around here other then eat food haha. I'm living on an island right now so there aren't many things to keep myself busy. I also had a hard time with my first few weeks after surgery. It was very slow and I had a lot of back pain strange enough that I haven't heard many other people complain about. But things are starting to look up I'm trying to get my diet more under control to manage faster weight loss. 13 pounds after surgery isn't expected after the first month so you have my sympathies it hasn't gone so far quite how you planned. I feel like I lose more weight when I eat earlier in the day instead of later so I'm working on that myself also. I'm excited to try the new protein recommendations from y'all!

Everyone's rate of loss varies. So don't worry about that, because it will just stress you out. /pat

Protein drinks: I'm tired of them all, but this is about choosing health, so...

These two are the most protein ones that I know about.

Isopure Zero Carb 160 calories, 40g protein, 0g carb

Premier: 160 calories, 30g protein, 5g carb

What does your nutritionist say? I bought the weight loss surgery cookbook for dummies, only to learn that a lot of the recipes don't fit in with my doctors strategy (right now I should be around 70g protein, 30-50g carbs, and in the 500-600 calorie range). But I was still able to go through the cookbook and flag some things that were on plan.

Good luck, and hang in there!

I had the back pain! It was my worst pain. I think it's because my abdominal muscles were so traumatized I wasn't using them to support my back as I should. Six weeks out now and my back is fine. Hope yours gets better soon!

Sabrina:

I weighed 216 on the day of surgery (ht. 5' 81/2", age 57) and was weighed today at the Drs. office at 193, so 23 lbs. in 5 weeks. But I think everyone's loss is going to be dependent on many things like metabolism, working out vs. not, age, male vs. female, genetics, etc. I think it would be hard to compare with others.

I didn't start out with as much weight as some others, but I had high blood pressure (now normal), high cholesterol (not yet tested again) and sleep apnea (have to wait awhile to see if I can get rid of the machine). My family also has a history of type 2 diabetes, so, I feel very happy with my weight loss as it is making a difference.

I mentioned to the physician's assistant today that I was disappointed that I have not gone down a pants size yet (my old pants are loose, but I have not lost as much in my waist), the PA said not to worry, different parts of the body change at different rates…. so I guess I'm ok with that as well.

We have to keep remembering that it will happen. We just have to keep consistent with the program of eating the right things and drinking our liquids. It will happen!

I also drink 1 Premier Protein drink every day. I buy them at Sams.

I don't have a nutritionist, I got my surgery done in Mexico. My insurance doesn't cover it so it was really the only way to afford it. I think I'm going to try the isolate Protein Drinks. I mean I have tried them before but out of all the ones I've tried they have it at the GNP down the street and I don't hate it lol. I'm glad to hear the back pain I had wasn't extremely unusual. Because it was really starting to worry me. I think I'm going to find a doctor here in the states and get checked out to make sure everything is okay. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Stalled for about 10 days now. Sleeved Dec 23. So glad for this board because I'm waiting it out and not stressing. How are you doing?

My stall was about three weeks out and lasted for about a week. I was sleeved on 12/18. My weight lose is now steady and I really try only to weight myself a couple of time a week but that's not working to well. I'm still on phase two of my physician's diet. Don't move to fruits and veggies for another two weeks. :-(. Missing my veggies. My physician is conservative on diets. Hope that's a good thing. I go back to work on the 29th and I'm looking forward to getting back in a routine. I'm trying to get my daily meals on my work schedule to make it easier. I work some crazy hours and take call at least three days a week. My days can last from 10 to 16 hours especially this time of year when so many dialysis patients are hospitalize due to illness. Taking a big tub of my favorite Protein Powder to leave in my locker for those O My Goodness moments need some energy. Need some ideas on easy meals for Breakfast and lunch.

It sounds like you're doing a great job and you're planning for life's hiccups. Have you done a search on the board for meal suggestions for this food stage? There are so many cool ideas from board members.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
