December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to stick with weighing and pictures on Sundays, but I do sneak in a scale trip every now and again... Plus I finally get off liquids for soft foods on Monday, and am pretty sure that will result in a stall as my body adjusts, and I'm okay with that.

Ultimately, I'm more concerned with my ability to stay on the nutrition program outlined by my doctor, because it know that's a better indicator of being able to achieve long term health than the numbers. But man, the numbers are a quick fix ego boost.

Hi I have a question. I am four weeks out. Am I allowed to have a tall skinny latte with one pump of vanilla. I guess the real question is can I have an ounce of espresso once a day.

Are you guys doing measurements each week and pictures? I haven't been good about that.

Uuhhhh. :( Not doing well today. I was distracted and absent minded and ate a pretty big mouthful of potatoes after finishing my chicken. I swallowed and realized right away what happened. I'm five weeks out and this is the first time I have had to throw up. :( The indigestion was horrible and painful. Glad it's over.

On a plus side, today was the first day I went to eat out. We went for Breakfast and I stole a smidgen of my husband's garden omelet. Yummy! It's good to know I can still eat out and be social! :)

That's no fun, fostermama! Glad you're feeling better. I had some yuckiness with too much Water and two pills taken too close together. Sigh.

It's been a challenge to get photos since our upstairs neighbor's pipe burst and flooded our apartment during my second week of recovery! But I am trying to get photos, because it's something I wasn't good about after I got my band, and I think it might give me some motivation when things get rocky in the future. I'm not doing measurements, though I do need to buy a swimsuit for a trip we're taking next month, so I actually *did* take some measurements today. And I appear to be smaller-- whodathunkit?

I'm only doing measurements and pics each month. I'm sure there's no way I could keep up with weekly and I don't think I'd see much of a difference anyway.

I haven't done any pictures yet. The doctors office took one of the last picture of me before surgery. I'm excited to go to his office tomorrow for my one month appt and to get weighed. Today was hard because it was my first party since surgery. I did ok but not great.

Hi Mustang2013! I've had a couple of lattes since my surgery on Dec. 18th, though I was told to have Decaf for the first couple of months. I thought I'd hate it, but honestly, a decaf skinny vanilla latte tastes pretty much the same! :-)

I think my hardest adjustment was the mental and emotional changes. The physical has been manageable. I actually went back to work 1 week and 2 days later (clinic nurse). It at least helped distract me and get back some sense of normalcy versus OBSESSING over what I could or could not do. I had been on an emotional rollercoaster at times (just like the surgeon told me could possibly happen). I thank God I haven't/didn't use food for comfort like I would have in the past. So far my weightloss is slow and steady (3 weeks post op and still anticipating the dreaded stall though). On average I get in all my Protein and Water with some days slacking a lil on the water. From one day to the next sometimes I was happy then sad, laughing then wanting to cry, hopeful then depressed and full of anxiety, positive then negative, motivated then discouraged...etc. Just an all out pity party of "woe is me"...LOL!!! I had to keep reminding myself why I did this. I realized I have to take control because I determine my success or failure. When I look at old pics, reflect on my numerous past FAILED weight loss attempts since I was a teenager, or see that now some of the jeans/sweats I wore 3 weeks ago now fit a lot looser...I get my a$$ back on track. Reading posts from everyone else also helped keep me going.

Therefore I BEG each of you, as we go back to our "normal lives" and for some return to work, don't forget your December Sleever Family and please stay in touch with your updates or just Hi! THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST SUPPORT GROUP FOR ME!!!! THANKS EVERYONE AND I WISH YOU MUCH SUCCESS!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
