December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody. Dec23rd Sleever here. Making my way through head hunger, nasty tasting Protein Shakes and salt cravings. Super excited to have it done and looking forward to the success to come once I can up my liquids n Protein. I can only get about 30oz and 30grms down right now. 2014 here I some. !!! Happy New Me!!! Lol. Hi. Dec 23 sleever here as well. Totally get your craving for salty things. I am not interested in the broths at this point, yuck. But I did want some egg drop Soup. I was feeling good on Clear Liquids so asked the docs office for their blessing to progress to full liquids. Since my soft egg yolk (hey, I read it's a full liquid) fiasco yesterday (that was so satisfying...for a few hours before my tummy got sour) I decided to ask the doc before eating anything I am unsure of. Lol. I asked them if I could have egg drop soup. They said yes and man, it is hitting the spot! It's salty, would that be of interest if the doc ok'ed it? When do you move through the next stages? Btw, if you like chocolate I recommend the Myology Chocolate whey on Puritains Pride. Got it B1G1 and it tastes like chocolate milk when you mix it with milk. Love it before and after surgery. :-P Mmmm. How are you feeling?

Hey there. Feeling good still getting tired easily. Where do you get the shake you are talking about? Sounds delish. Struggling a little with the intake but it get better everyday. Took GasX in the hospital as I saw hubby struggle through the pain n gas and stuff. Felt 100% better after surgery. Looking for a buddy through the next month and egg drop soup sounds to die for. I been cleared to eat what I can tolerate and to try small doss first. Had some cottage cheese last night w avocado. Only 2 - 4 super small spoonfuls but it's soo good and I HATED cottage cheese before. Lol thanks for your input and suggestions :)

I'll be your buddy. PM me your number if you'd like to talk some time! I've made a couple friends off this site so far, both are preop. Since we are the same day it would be cool to keep in touch. Cleared to eat what you can tolerate? Like anything, or thickened liquids or what? I'm jealous! But, after my egg yolk incident, I want to be careful. No puking here so far, thank God!

I want refried Beans with mils salsa, cheddar and light sour cream. This is my goal in life. And maybe that ricotta bake everyone talks about. *sigh* soon enough!

Myology is sold by Puritan Pride. It's still on sale B1G1 (so 41.95 for 2 containers of 32 servings, 30 grams protein a scope) here: http://www.puritan.com/myology-brand-0559/whey-protein-isolate-chocolate-031471?scid=4150

Here's a 10% off coupon code over $59: MRRYP10

They also have B1G2 on their brand Vitamins. I found liquid vitamins with super foods and Fiber on the list: 3 bottles, 32 servings each for 34.95 here:http://www.puritan.com/multivitamins-067/biorganic-life-complete-liquid-nutrition-019835?ssl=1&

I haven't tasted it yet though. I think after my first post op appointment perhaps. No vitamins for me right now, maybe cause of my blood thinner shots, perhaps it could interfere.

I'm questioning what have I done to myself...I can barely handle this pain on my chest whenever I drink water.. went to walgreens and bought some zentac...to see if it helps. I also noticed I was not mentally ready for this surgery (sleeved Dec 18th 2013) I want to eat.. and have tasted sweet potato, mash potatoes. ..but I feel terrible. I don't want any more Protein Shakes or broth. I don't know what to do. All I can do is pray...There is no turning back I know..I just want to feel better and eat what I want without pain..sorry don't mean discourage anyone I just don't know what else to do

You will be ok, try to hand in there a bit longer ok? It will get better!

I noticed I get gas bubbles from swallowing seem to happen less if I drink my Water while I am walking.

When can you advance to puree with your doctors blessings? Hopefully soon. There could be recipes you can eat soon that will help. Maybe a ricotta bake, pureed deviled eggs, pureed tuna salad, refried Beans with salsa, cheddar, and sour cream, etc.

If you are on full liquids what about egg drop Soup, yogurt, pudding, ricotta mousse, pumpkin pudding, sugar free fudgesicles or popsicles? Egg drop saved my day!

have you spoken to your doc about your challenges? Could Pepcid complete help? A pain med? Gas X chewables? Is milk giving you trouble?

Hi all although I'm still on full liquids I found recipe for a delicious low carb, high Protein soup! Just don't forget to purée

Brazilian Shrimp Stew (Moqueca de Camaroes

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs raw shrimp, peeled & deveined

1/4 cup olive oil

1/4 cup onion, diced

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 cup roasted red pepper, diced

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

(1) 14 oz can diced tomatoes w/ chili’s

1 cup coconut milk

2 Tbl Sriracha hot sauce

2 Tbl fresh lime juice

salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan. Saute onions for several minutes until translucent, then add the garlic and peppers and cook for several minutes more. Add the tomatoes, shrimp and cilantro to the pan and simmer gently until the shrimp turns opaque. Pour in the coconut milk and Sriracha sauce, and cook just until heated through – do not boil. Add lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro. Cold beer optional.

Notes

Note: If you can’t eat shrimp, you can substitute any mild white fish, or even chicken, for the protein in this recipe and it will taste just as amazing!

Approx nutrition info per serving: 294 calories, 19g fat, 5.5g net carbs, 24g protein

Meamo, I was feeling the same. Still have struggles. I used to drink a lot of Water before surgery and now I cramp in my chest when drinking it. I find that diluting Isopure in the Water helps. I use maybe 1/8 Isopure zero and 7/8 water.

I cannot get down the full strength isopure yet.

It will get better,

Maemo...I think almost all of us have gone through some of what you are going through. I was sleeved on Dec. 11th and until yesterday could hardly get in 16 oz of Water. What I realized was that I no longer can stand the taste of tap Water. I had no idea that my taste for water would change, but when I got bottled water yesterday, it was like heaven, and I was able to get in almost 40 oz of just water alone.

I had to do 2 weeks liquid diet post-op and was able to move to puréed foods Christmas mornin, which in itself caused a few tears and the 'what have I done to myself' question, but I promise it does get easier.

This is a humongous learning process for every one of us...we have to find what we like now, because it may be completely different post-op.

Hang in there....we're here for you!

Could be Vitamin deficiency. Or your body adjusting - and the fact you had major surgery. Hang in there. Im 11 days post also.

There are big things waiting ... Make sure you are also not overdoing it. I noticed at the end of the day I'm wiped out. Our bodies are healing ... And getting used to this new 'shock' of a change.

Hang in there.

Surgery dec 17th an have so much pain in my stomach area I can't even bend over to put my own shoes on. The stitch on my left side is about a inch or inch and a half indented it's so tight. How long will this last?

My largest incision hurt a lot, and if I did too much bending, it would hurt more. Surgeon explained that was the one area that they do a through-and-through intramuscular stitch, and that when the stitch dissolved, the pain would dissipate. He was right. By three weeks post-op, I have no pain anywhere, and the dimpling around that incision has reduced.

Question for the group. Did your NUT or doc tell you exactly how much Protein you should be getting in every day on an individual basis or did they give you a generic minimum amount you should meet?

I'm asking because, my NUT/WLS actually gave me a way to measure how much Protein I should be taking to maximize my weight loss based on my height. There's a formula that calculates it, for every inch you are over 5 feet. For instance, I'm 5'9, so that would be 9 x 5 = 45 +100 = 145/2.2=65.90 x 1.5 =98.85 minimum grams of protein I should be eating daily.

I told him, it's pretty much impossible right now, I'm maxing out at 84, he said that was fine for now, but I should reach for the 98.85 to max out weight loss.

So, I was just wondering has anyone else's doc or Nut used this method to determine how much protein or did they just give you a minimum amount?

Btw, I'm on to soft foods on Saturday, yippie!!

My doc gave me a general amount, 60g daily as a minimum, but 75-100g daily for optimal weight loss (for a woman). I've been averaging 75-85g protein since the first day I was allowed it (day 3), and I've lost 21 pounds since surgery three weeks ago (about 38 pounds total). Doc attributes that weight loss to hitting my Fluid and protein goals. Hope he's right! :)

Meamo:

I can totally relate to what you are saying and I can testify that it does get better. Keep trying different things to drink. I could not stand Water, but Propel works well for me. I could not tolerate the clear Protein Drinks, but the Oh Yeah Protein shakes work well. What turned the corner for me was to be able to have small sips of Soup. I took Progresso Soups like Wedding Soup, strained out all the solids and heated the remaining liquid. It just took awhile for my stomach to calm down.

Don't be afraid to call your Dr. office to tell them what is going on. I had a scopamine patch for nausea which helped. The other thing I did was that every time I felt gas pains I would walk around my house - several laps and I could hear the gas bubbles moving around - the movement seemed to help settle my stomach. If you look back at my posts I was lost, but it did get better and it will for you. You are in my prayers for a quick turn around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
