abarta83 118 Posted December 15, 2013 My surgery date is Dec 31st! What a way to bring in the new year! Tmrrw is my pre-op appointment at Duke regional in Durham NC, evidently it's an all day thing where I go to group, meet with nutrition again and with my surgeon, anesthesiologist and of course FINANCE. I've tried to reach out already to Iron out the details about what they require up front and nobody seems to know. I have bcbs IL and luckily they didn't require any supervised dieting period so that was a relief. I have 1500 deductible which I've already met just with pre op psych and nut and lab testing etc...and my oop max is 3k...so im really not too worried about the rest...im assuming it's all going to be billable since nobody at duke seems to know or really be stressing it. Yesterday I met a really great guy at Vitamin Shoppe in Burlington NC, who was completely encouraging and has lost over 90 pounds himself. He was able to recommend a Multivitamin geared spec for bariatric patients that was fairly inexpensive and the best type of Protein that I'll probably go purchase after my appointment tmrw. Apparently my insurance requires a surgery date to be set prior to submitting for approval so that was just sent for approval on Friday and was told by admin at Duke Metabolic Center for Weight loss to give it til about this Wednesday or so to check on the approval.**crossing my fingers** Soooooo....that's where I'm at...I guess it will all sink in after tmrw...until then I'll be checking out the forum and various youtube videos for encouragement 2 AtlantaRed and DeezJeanz reacted to this
RunningA5K 645 Posted December 15, 2013 Hi everyone... Just a quick check in...still trying to recover, and am having som definite pain around the incision site. I have a LOT of gurgling as I am drinking my shakes, and am not making the 64 oz a day quite yet. Good luck to everyone this week...keep in mind when you are on the other side and tired of hurting (like I am) that it's short term pain for long term gain. Not a second of 'buyer's remorse' at all!! Praying for you Andrew! 5 tami j, chefcoll, SoPeachy28 and 2 others reacted to this
cabstewart 48 Posted December 15, 2013 QUESTION??? TO THOSE WHO'VE BEEN SLEEVED!!! - Did you ask to see what your stomach looked like, or if they took pictures etc. I'm very curious to know what it looks like on the inside!! Like was it fatty, was my liver smaller , the list goes on an on.. Don't know if anyone else is like me, but I watched a whole gastric sleeve procedure (from a Dr. in Marietta, GA) on youtube last night. I couldn't believe they had such a thing on youtube but they do. It was very interesting. 1 SoPeachy28 reacted to this

tami j 277 Posted December 15, 2013 I was instructed to shower the night before and the morning off with antibacterial soap. Oh and to wash my hair well both time which I thought was weird. Same here! Which will be tonight and at 4:30 am! Eek can't believe it's here after one more sleep! (At least I hope I can sleep!) 2 barefeet and SoPeachy28 reacted to this

I was also instructed to shower with antibacterial soap also. It's my choice to wash my hair I don't have to. But I can't wear any oils, lotions, hair gels etc! cabstewart 48 Posted December 15, 2013 Something the nurse told me at the pre-op visit… she said that women should not shave their legs or underarms the day before or day of surgery because the razor causes tiny cuts to the skin which can make you more susceptible to infection. I don't know if this applies to men shaving their face, but it would seem that it would. That was a surprise!
