December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Sookie, can you let the group know the name of the Protein shot? It would be nice to do a test run on them before spending money on something that won't agree with stomach.

Thanks

I wonder why some doctors use drains with WLS and others do not. I will ask my surgeon on Thursday when I go for my first post-op appointment. Truly curious about that one.

My surgeon uses them on a case by case basis. He warned me I might wake up with one, but I didn't. He said some people build up more Fluid than others and it helps prevent infection in those people. Maybe some surgeons techniques cause more fluid build up? Or maybe some are more cautious.

Sure - Provide Solid Gold. And I did get a tiny taste at the pre-seminar. I thought then it might be trouble!!

I will be December 17th Dr. Carcamo here in San Antonio. So excited I am 27 and have lost about 20 pounds so far on nutritionist diet plan. But I am terrified about loose skin. But I am ready to be healthy again. I just changed jobs. I am a hairdresser and am now at a fast paced salon. I have only told the owners and the manager and decided to ask off from Dec 17th to Jan 6th just so I am back to 100% and can keep up once I am back.

Hi serenah, Congrat to you, I will have same surgery date as you Yeah!!! We can Celebrate our surgeversary together!

I pray for a A+ Surgery, Recovery and Lifestyle change for you. Kind Regards

Laura

I wonder if being on the preop prepares a person fir postop? Originally, I wasn't supposed to be on one and I thought it would be super hard. I thought it be easy postop because of recovery. Preop has been much easier than I could have imagined. I DO want food but I'm such a rule follower, I know it's not an option so I'm just trying to roll along. Surgery is Friday and then just one week of liquids after!

I think you are right. My surgeon wanted me to lose 30 more pounds before doing the surgery so he sent me to the hospital where they put you on liquids only. I've been on liquids for about a month and a half. Sure I've cheated but not horrible. Just a bite here or there but I think being on the liquid diet before will help tremendously. Thank god after Wednesday I'll only have 2 weeks of liquid left and then pureed food yay!

Thank you! Its been hard but I've done my best. I'm sure you will do great on your 2 weeks just keep reminding yourself that it's only for a few weeks and then real food comes back into play. Good luck on your surgery!

I saw on previous entries that both pre-op and post-op patients are having trouble finding a Protein Drink they like or can tolerate. I found nectar by Syntrax on line that I like very much. They have 23 grams of Protein and 25 calories in 8 ozs, and they are a thin drink ( like Skim milk) that are tart and very tasty. They also make a few flavors that are sweet. I really like their lemond-aid, Twisted cherry, very grape, and apple flavors. I still have a few flavors to try yet. What's nice is that they have a group of sample packs you can order for about twenty dollars. I think 10 different flavors come in the sample pack so you can try, then you can order your favorite in a bulk. I also found Chike on line. It's more of a Meal Replacement with high protein 28 grams per 8 ozs. Chike comes in 5 flavors, and banana and chocolate are my favorites so far. They have sample packs also. So look them up and see what you think. I just ordered more of both so I would have them after my surgery on 12-18-13. Hope the info helps.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
