Please help! Whats Going On???

Recommended Posts

For the last 24 hours I have been having some discomfort. I had a fill about 8 days ago and all went fine. But last night I had a feeling of soreness/pressure just under my sternum (which is incidently the same place I have felt pain in the past when accidently overeating.) Now this feeling of soreness and pressure comes and goes and I feel like there is a build up of air in my stomach and every time it passes through it brings that sore feeling back. I don't know how to explain it better than that.....Just feels like I have to burp but the air is trapped or something and that trapped air is putting pressure on the band???

I don't have any clue what's going on. Any Ideas???

Thanks!

I noticed I have the feeling of more trapped air with certain foods and I sometimes do that that weird feeling as you described. I have had to stay away from certain foods since my 2nd fill because they just cause too much air to get trapped. I have that problem when I eat fruits or crisp veggies or Jello. Anything that's kinda solid and doesn't break down into the tiniest of solid crumbs then this happens to me. Keep track of what you ate last, just before this problem and see if it's certain foods. Using a straw causes this too sometimes for me. If you still have that feeling and can't recongnize a certain food causing it I highly recommend calling your nutrionist or physician and letting them know. They might want to do a flouro to make sure you're band isn't too tight.

I keep some Papaya tablets on hand to help dissolve any type of Protein that gets stuck. You might try some GasX in case there is trapped gas. Altoids seem to help some also.

Do try warm liquids....in fact, stay on liquids for a couple of days after this incident becaue you are probably going to have some swelling and irritation for a while afterward.

It's a miserable feeling but it will pass.....try to remember what you ate and how you can prevent this from happening. next time. It took me a few months to get good at the 'mechanics' of eating and sometimes still have an incident when I try something new.

Thanks everyone! I had some liquid maalox on hand that I took in the middle of the night last night to see if that would help that trapped gas feeling. This morning I feel tons better- whatever it was. Anyway I'm going to stay on liquids most of the day so if I am swolllen or irritated as was suggested, I can let my stomach have a lil' healing time.

Thanks all! I was worried, but I think I'm going to be ok!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
