Food after surgery

Recommended Posts

My husband is having surgery oct 11th and I'm concern with how to make it easy for him but not make myself and our 3 children have to stop eating the usual stuff just because he can't have it. Any suggestion on how to help him without making our lives and his miserable Thanks

He can have Protein and veggies once he starts soft-regular foods...so if you make a lean meat and veggies for dinner I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard. The hubby loves beef stew and I just eat the broth, beef(if it's soft enough), and veggies. I don't mind not having the rice. That's what I do. And I keep the foods I can eat here ALL the time. I don't run out of my protein-rich foods, that keeps me from just grabbing my families Snacks. Hope this helps

I'm a single mom with a teenage son. Of course he has to eat or he gets grumpy. What I've learned having been out if surgery for a week and a half....I am not hungry. I have my own stuff and he has his. Eventually he'll be able to eat high Protein meals. The best thing you can do is make meals focused around that once he's at that stage. It's healthier for you and your kids anyway. White flour and white sugars should be banned from the grocery shelves. Lol. All in all he is make a huge life decision and he's blessed to have a wife who cares like you do. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
