Hi all,

So I just got scheduled to see the doctor for the first time before I get enrolled in the option program for kaiser.... Has anyone done this meeting yet? What kinda questions do they ask? I'm nervous that I'll blow it in one meeting despite that I meet the rest of the qualifications? And I keep rehearsing what I think he will ask but I really have no clue what he will ask!!! Any thoughts would be helpful!!

I'm guessing you have Kaiser SoCal because Kaiser NorCal doesn't have Options classes. If you don't get an answer, search for Kaiser So Cal or Kaiser in whatever city you are using. LIke Kaiser Harbor City.

HI there..I completed my class in September. When you meet with the Dr he just asks you a series of questions related to you/eating/habits, etc. He reviews the diff types of surgeries that KP offers (gastric, sleeve and lap band - outsourced to another clinic). You will get weighed and your bp taken, he will order a bunch of tests (to include the infamous stool test) and then you are on your way. LOTS of great information to learn during your Options classes. You will also see the Dr at your 4, 8 and 12th week. He's not the determining factor in whether you move forward or not -just a precursor to get you on your way. Can I ask what KP you will be going to?

Hi I went thru the whole program, I believe the meeting with the Doctor is to get referred to the options classes, The reason I got referred is because I had sleep apnea. The options class was a great thing to help you understand everything.

I'm at the Kaiser in San Diego (The Positive Choice Center). I know everywhere for Kaiser is different because my classes are actually 24 weeks as opposed to 12 which I see in a lot of other places. And I actually did all the testing before they schedule you to see the doctor (yup the stool test is super fun!!!) The doctor I'm scheduled to see is the bariatric guy, not m y doctor...I can only assume if I'm this far that to some degree, I qualify for the surgery. I'm looking forward to the classes actually, I really believe that they ultimately help you be successful after surgery (although I wouldn't mind if they were only 12 weeks instead of 24!!!)

I work for Kaiser- SoCal and I was sleeved April 16,2013. There are several factors that all work together that make you eligible for surgery. 1st is PCP referral to options. Sometimes you have to meet with an MD or NP just establish a base line and goal. Then you have your options class which are all the same, just depends on how the time is spread out. Some do two classes in one meeting-12 weeks instead of 24. After options and you have to do several series of lab work, food logs, and don't miss any classes. After that you have your med clearance appt (more labs, EKG, etc), meet with the surgeon where they will decide what the best procedure is, then surgery. Sometimes surgery isn't the best option, so all the questions and process is to ensure your safety, health, and if it is right for you. Ultimately, this is a huge investment and KP wants to make sure you are a success story. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Thank you for the response!! I'm thinking I pretty much understand how the Kaiser process works....I'm just scheduled for a pre evaluation with the doctor at positive choice and I have no clue what kind stuff they are going to ask...I never had to have a PCP referral....maybe this takes the place of that?? Plus I already did a full set of lab work (my sister is in Riverside and didn't do that until after the 7th week)....I have a feeling I'm going to stress about this no matter what though cause there is no way to know for sure.

I had my appt last month and they basically sit with you and ask you questions about your weight loss attempts history, any health problems, etc. They weigh you as well. It was probably a 20 min appointment. I start Options on Fri! Best of luck xx

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
