Walking the treadmill

Recommended Posts

I have been walking the treadmill since the day after my surgery and recommend it to anyone who needs a simple way to get your exercise. Many doctors will tell you that walking is the best and most effective form of exercise. Also good for people with knee and hip problems that many overweight people have.

I like the tread mill for a number of reasons. First, if you simply go out walking in your community, you will find that you stop to talk to friends and neighbors along the way. After you've been out for an hour, you think you had an hour of exercise. Not so. On the treadmill you have no such distractions. If you walk around your community, it's real easy to skip your exercise because it's too cold, too hot, too dark, raining, etc. Not so on the treadmill. The treadmill can give you a way to measure your speed, time and calories burned. Not so with walking the community. And best of all, your can pass the time by watching TV, listening to your MP3 player or reading a book. I prefer reading on my tablet with the Kindle app. Time flies when you can get into a good e-book, and the tablet is so much easier to handle because you don't have to hold it, just sit it on the treadmill and flip pages with a stroke.

Treadmill has been very effective for me. I lost all my weight (102 lbs) in six months and have gained only 3-5 lbs back in the succeeding year. If I find myself floating outside that 3-5 lbs limit, I go back to my high Protein, low carb diet until I get back in line again. I do it 5-6 days a week for one hour at 4mph with varying elevations. Works great and I feel great!

Well said, Sir! I too am a treadmill fan.

I love the treadmill, but sadly, cardio is deleterious to my losing. If I do cardio, my loss grinds to a halt.

I am walking the treadmill and riding a stationary bike. I still love walking outside but I see your point about distractions. I wish the treadmills at the gym I go to had a place to prop a magazine or my tablet because I tend to watch the stats and I think it would go faster if I didn't do that. The main thing I like about the treadmill is that I can control the speed, incline, etc. I'm just starting at the gym and tonight I did a mile on the treadmill and three on the bike.

Absolutely, me too, mine is to the right side of my television along the wall so I may view from the rest of the room or do 30 min.s or even 45 to 60 min.s during program's. I am presently started to go to gym as well for muscle building from time to time. Feel great as well, glad to see it for other's as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
