    • I look for any menu item with some sort of lean protein and plan to eat only the protein (for example, I only eat the turkey and leave the bun if I get a turkey burger).

    • I ask the server if I can have some grilled chicken and steamed vegetables.

    • I order whatever looks good and plan to just eat a couple of bites. You might as well take advantage of the restaurant’s good cooking!
      38
    • I bring my own food so I can enjoy spending time with everyone else while they eat the restaurant’s food.

    • I don’t go to restaurants anymore. There’s nothing I can eat with my weight loss surgery.

I am 4 weeks post op, I went to a restaraunt with my husband and 2 teenage daughters to Celebrate a school acomplishment, I ate 2 steamed crab legs, and 1/2 of a grilled shrimp, and felt very satisfied, and part of the of the family dinner:)

I usually order something with chicken or shrimp and eat that with steamed veggies or just split something with my hubby.

I find I order what I want but I make sure it isn't breaded or fried. I will also leave off the carbs & order extra veggies. I love Red Lobster, Longhorns, & diner food (I live in NJ, diners are everywhere). Most places will meet my dietary requests.

We go to Sushi Train on Friday nights quite often. I have sashimi, one plate, while my husband has three or four plates of whatever he fancies. It's yummy and good Protein. Today we had Chinese, he ordered rice and two dishes which I chose! I had a few bites of the chicken and beef and two bites of veges. He loves how cheap my sleeve is to feed!

We have a place called Sushi Station here and they have specials during the week so my whole meal is always $1.25 lol. I can only fit 3 pieces in my tummy and Im done. Everyone else has 5 or 6 plates that have 3 or 4 pieces each on them or more. Its really the only food Ive ever said I wished I could overeat cause its so delicious!

"I order whatever looks good and plan to just eat a couple of bites. You might as well take advantage of the restaurant’s good cooking!"

Thats me. I go out to eat about once a week and enjoy everything in small amounts. I'm of the school of thought that I'm no longer dieting so why should I diet at a restaurant? I know I'm probly gunna hear about my way of thinking (usually do), but there's got to be more of us out there (those that don't count anything, measure anything, just listen to our bodies). And I never order off the kids menu (who wants chicken nuggets or pizza?). I ALWAYS bring home about 3/4 of my meal. I enjoy my leftovers till I'm sick of them and toss them.

Last nite my in laws took us to Hometown Buffet (who refuse to honor my wls restaurant card) and I ate 1 bite of about 8 different items. I had a lot of food on my plate but when I was done, it looked like I hadn't even touched it.

I'm such a waste of $$ at a buffet...

I'm so glad some people are saying this. I keep seeing people say I feel so bad about myself I ate 4 Cheetos or I had 3 french fries complaining like they ate a whole pie? Just because I got sleeved, am I destined to order grilled chicken breasts and veggies and supposed to feel guilty about whatever I put in my mouth for the rest of my life? That's not why I got the sleeve. I am so thankful for some of the real life posts on here. It makes me feel better. I may not have the same outcome as far as what I will be able to tolerate, but at least some people still seem normal. I just cant believe that people are eating chicken and veggies all day. I would love to have some chipotle a few months from now or go to a restaurant and feel normal.

I eat out quite often. I order a salad and eat the toppings with little lettuce. Let's see... Mexican places: crispy fajita taco-dump it out of the shell and cut up the insides, add a little salsa and I have a perfect little taco salad for $2.00. Italian places: chicken Parmesan GRILLED instead of breaded (AWESOME!)

I almost always go to the kids menu first. Then I check out appetizers. If nothing take my fancy or is nutritionally sound, I hit up the Soup and/or salad selections.

I hear what you are saying. Yes, I am with you, I did not get sleeved to eat chicken and veggies for every meal for the rest of my life. I think what you are seeing is that during the losing phase, a lot of surgeons and NUTS have their patients on strict diets so thats why you are seeing a lot of that. While for the most part, people are trying hard to make the best or at least better choices, most of us will splurge from time to time, which is how people should be eating, sleeved or not. :)

I am over 7 months out and yes, Chipotle is on the menu. Have had it several times. It can be a great meal. Their barbacoa (sp?) is to die for, with some Beans and cheese and.....don't get me craving it!

Ok. I was really getting worried. "I ate 2 Cookies and I have to go to the gym right now" was starting to get me worried. Is that why I'm fat because I don't understand that! Don't answer :)

I completely get making better choices because that is exactly what I plan on doing. Being more health conscious and using my food scale to help me understand portion in the beginning- but weighing food for life absolutely not. I'm thankful to hear that some people do act what I keep calling "normal" from time to time. I did not get this to be singled out in the group while everyone is having a good time, there's Barb with her broccoli!

Chipotle barbacoa is delicious. I'm with you on that one

Absolutely I'm a "real life" kind of gal. I get bashed alot on here that I eat EVERYTHING under the sun (except ice cream but only cuz that give me tummy trouble) just in REALLY small amts. While my diet couldn't be considered "healthy" by any means, it's certainly healthier than pre wls (I was banded for 4 yrs previous to the sleeve). I've lost close to 100 lbs eating whatever I want also. Only 25 lbs left.

Now for the caveat: My scale hasn't budged in about 6 weeks (and I'm only 3 mths post op - down about 20 lbs since being sleeved). I just joined a gym today (just moved 800 miles away last week and starting over in a new state) and will start my last 25 lbs tomorrow. I'm gunna attempt to eat a little healthier. Meaning :Less fast food, less potatoes, less bread - by no means does it mean NO fast food, potatoes or bread. I've heard the last 20 lbs are the heardest so I guess I'm gunna hafta be a little stricter on my diet for a while

Hubby is an over the top Atkins Induction fan. Can't do low carb. Did it for 4 weeks last Feb and I was miserable. Wpuld've killed my mom for a cookie. It works for him tho. He's a volume eater. He can eat his weight in meat and veggies. Bread is so foreign to him. But if he eats a cookie, he eats the whole darn bag. While I can eat just 1 or 2 and be good for a couple days.

And btw, I luv Chipotle. I get the chicken burrito bowl with black Beans, brown rice, fajita veggies, cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guac on the side (otherwise the leftovers are too soggy). I will eat maybe 6-8 bites and the rest is tossed after a couple days and about 4 meals (when I get sick of it). And hubby can eat there too. He gets a double portion of steak burrito bowl with fajita veggies, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, guac, and hot salsa. Maybe 6 gms of carbs (in the cheese and sour cream). Oh and he gets them without rice and Beans.< /p>

I say everything in moderation. I lost my weight slowly. Couldn't sped it up, I spose if I'd counted everything that went into my mouth. And now I guess I'm choking on my words of wisdom cuz now that I'm stuck with another 25 lbs to lose, I will be more carfeul about what I put in. But I still won't count anything. I will just limit a few things (like my fast food to 1x a week instead of 4)

Good luck with ur weightloss. It's definitely forever and if you can live forever with counting everything that goes into ur mouth, then booey to u. More power to ya!

Can always find something n the appetizer menu, but I still get sad about not being able to sip a good glass of wine AND eat dinner. We eat out a lot less and invite friends in a lot more since surgery because I can sip wine and no one notices that I have not eaten because I just put appetizers out on the counter and everyone , except me, grazes.... I am not heavy drinker, but at the end of the week, I like a good glass of wine with friends.

I had my sleeve July 8 and I don't eat out that much. If I do need something quick, 90% of the time I'll stop at a gas station and buy string cheese. Other times when I'm really having a craving I'll go to Krystal or White Castle and get one cheeseburger and take the top bun off. At a sit down I just eat about 5 bites of whatever Protein other ppl order. chicken, Steak, Fried Cheesesticks, chips and dip (rarely) and eggs are about all I'll eat. Other stuff just doesn't stay down (salad, veggies, potatoes, bread, Mexican, Asian, Pasta) and I've thrown that stuff up enough that it isn't even very tempting now. Another one of my favorite tricks when eating out is to scrape all the toppings off of one small piece of pizza and it's very satisfying. I eat nothing that was on my previous op diet (broth, Soup, Jello, pudding etc.) LOL. I do drink wine 3 times a week!

This makes me happy and sad. Happy because it shows I can still go out to eat which I absolutely love and miss. I was sleeved 10/8. Sad because everyone is saying they will eat the insides of the tacos and fajitas but not the shell. Also same with burgers-no Buns. I love bread, shells, and Pasta. Are these ever allowed???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
