I Finally had my surgery yesterday morning. Is it weird that I am excited to finally post a thread in the post-op forum?!? Haha

I just got my tasty Breakfast of beef broth, Jello, bottle of war with crystal light packet and unflavored Protein powder to put it all of it. Before, I would have already finished and wishing for more. Now I have had two sips and am pretty full. I get one ounce per hour for now. Maybe up to 2 ounces per hour later today. Mostly I am just bored, but the pain is a bit better, when I am not moving anway. Hopefully will only get better from here!

I too am on day 1 post op. Needless to say, I feel like crap. I am attempting to eat some Jello but it's little bites and the sensation from it makes me nervous but I was told I would be feeling it. I too want to just sleep. My best friend had the procedure in May and she is my cheerleader. Please tell me it gets better because right now, all I want to is cry like a baby and curl up on the floor.

Had my surgery 14 hours ago. I feel much better than I expected. The pain is tolerable and I have walked 2 times. I think I had so much anxiety. I had never had any kind of surgery. All went smooth incetions are small. Mouth is very dry and Chapstick was my lifesaver. One problem is sleep tonight. sleeping for about 15 minutes and waking. Slept on and off all day. But overall a great day. Keep us posted I hope things get better for those of you having a rough time.

Mostly it was just for options. I didn't drink most of it. Which now, I may not be able to go home today as planned. I am not tolerating enough liquids and Protein. I am trying to get more down today, I really want to go home.

Bethin PA...I certainly hope so. I felt better today as I got to take a shower. Walked with the hubs approx half mile. I know it gets better. My main issue is that I am having a hard time getting in the Protein that I need. I had almost 8 ounces of protein chicken broth so it was a start..

It's only day one! I was really stressed about getting the protein and fluids in from day one also, but the reality is that the majority of people can't achieve their goals for a while - it took me weeks. So please go easy on yourself and just focus primarily on fluids for now, because they are the most important. The protein will come later.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
