Old habits die hard. I had the band for 5 years and ate sliders a lot. Revised to sleeve on 8/19. I'm 7 weeks out today and as soon as I was 6 weeks out and given the all clear for foods I slipped right back into bad band habits. My high was 255, I was 202 on revision day and dropped down to 187 at 4 weeks out. Yesterday I weighed 191, I'm only 5'2", that is still obese. Yesterday's number was at home (first time in years) on an old scale in the attic that my mother calls the devil because it's always wrong. But I got on it because I feel like I have gained. I feel that way because I ate a lot of junk this past week. All week I just kept thinking, this is just a fluke, a pendulum swing from the 3 weeks liquid and 3 weeks soft. But now I want to knock it off and make better choices. But it's easier said than done.

I want to lose more weight. And I know what I should be doing. Protein. Water. Walk. But that voice in my head keeps saying, "You have always been a terrible dieter". "Don't bother". If the lowest I could get with the band was 202, and now (after surgery recovery) I can eat the same as I did with the band. Will I be able to lose and maintain at a lower weight? Now that I am able to eat better foods, Protein and veggies, I'm still choosing sliders!

Any other band to sleevers struggling with this? Am I overreacting? It's only week 7, but I need to change this! It's been 20 years since I saw this number on a scale and I don't want to lose it!

Hang in there. Old habits are hard to break. Don't throw your hands up and say, well I messed up so I might as we'll. just begin again. You will do well. Just take it one day at a time

I've honestly had the mentality you were talking about. I'm 2 months out, and while reading this I thought, "I could totally eat a piece of pizza." and had the thought to go get it.

Don't give in. A craving last a moment, your life lasts longer. You can fight it. I believe in you.

Thanks guys, it's amazing what a few encouraging words can do when you are feeling low. Every day is an opportunity to grow and learn how to make better choices. I can do this. The kids and I are going to a class today, I think I'll bring some extra Snacks and move out the chips that found there way into my kitchen.

I hate this cycle, I make bad choices at the market, then give it to my husband to take to work or give it to friends to get the food out of the house. It's embarrassing to be wasting money on food I crave, then give it away because I can't just eat a small amount!

Think of it this way...u only need willower to keep the food out of the house-at the store. Then u dont even think about it the 50 times a day at home.

Its amazing what eating a slice of sandwich meat or other dense Protein before shoppingcan do to your willpower...

I have been doing better the last few days. Bringing poor choices into the house is something I really need to improve. Over the years my husband has taken over the shopping many times at my request. But he is so busy, it often slips back to me.

I was planning that this revision was going to be a new start for my whole family. My husband and boys are all thin. But we still should not be having so much ( or any! ) chips and Cookies in the house. Lots of work to do here! Why is it so hard for me to keep it out of the house? It's like I need it here. Security.

I wonder if it would help you to make a grocery list and ONLY buy what's on the list? It helps me to shop on the outsides of the store rather than the aisles where all the junk is, and if I don't have a list, I'm a lot more tempted by the junk.

Seems to be that you are more aware of where you are or could go wrong, which is good progress, right? Hang in there and just visualize all the others who are struggling with this at this moment, and know you are not alone.

I am a year out and still have trouble resisting sliders. For me that would be popcorn, crackers, chips, etc ...

Curse you, darn carbs!!

I'm right there with ya! I had my band for five years and I HAD to eat slider foods to survive. Otherwise, I would have starved to death. Literally honestly - I could not eat real food. My esophagus was so irritated that it simply would not fit down. I talked to my bariatric doc about it and she told me early on that there is a type of brainwashing or conditioning that we have from the band days and that it is really a struggle to overcome it. By the end with my band, my doc told me I had the Vitamin and nutrition profile (from my bloodwork)that they only really see in people from third world countries. That is how malnourished I was but I was till 240 pounds the day I got my sleeve! I was also pre-diabetic from all of that darn junk food.< /p>

We have to work really hard at this. I often find myself wanting to reach for a slider so I keep them out of reach and dense Protein within reach. I also really have learned to enjoy all of the real foods I missed all of those years! I can't believe the joy I now find in eating a grape, apple, orange, vegetables.... I'm becoming a fruit eater and I never really was before.

We don't have to be perfect, but we have to do better. We are conditioned to eat crap but we don't have to anymore! I know we can both do this!

Just realized which forum this was in, LOL.

My mom had her revision done last September - she had problems not leaning on sliders as well. I remember when she had the band she would keep chocolate bars on hand as well as things like ice cream and other things. She doesn't do that NOW with the sleeve, but it took her a while to get into that frame of mind.

I finally tried an apple, with skin! It was delicious, and eating it was just like the old days pre band, just less of it. Fixxerupper, that is very interesting what your doctor said. I do feel like I'm fighting myself. Reaching for that apple was hard. I was afraid to eat it. My body telling me to stay away, pain, vomiting if I try.

It's a light bulb moment for me!

Has anyone ever told you about head hunger? That was a problem for me after my sleeve but I have dealt with it by thinking am I really hungry or was it head hunger. When I really don't know I get busy doing something and if the hunger doesn't go away then I know I need to eat.

I was revised from band also. The habits learned to eat around a band that isn't working for you, can still work against us here...IF WE LET THEM! First step is whAt we are doing, recognizing & identifying problems. Now we have to find ways to stop them. Keep sharing what is or isn't working for you, I'll do the same. Like NUT says eat slow, that's all I do, but I'll sit with a slice of pizza for 2 hours to eat it all. Instead of stopping after 20 mins. WE CAN DO THIS

I'm one month out today (woo hoo!!) but I'm falling into this trap also... I enjoy yogurt and cheese and sliced meats but there are days when solid Proteins do not feel good to my stomach. I have never thrown up-- but I have had moments when I wish I could! At times like those I find it is far easier to eat my slider foods. They don't hurt. I do look forward to the day when I can have all the veggies again! I love veggies, and felt like with the band I was completely banned from them. But as I heal- I am struggling with the urge to fall into bad habits that feel good. :( I know better. And my weight loss has completely stalled for a while (since day 10 to now day 29) I'm trying to do the right things though and not eat what's easy- not be around it ,not bring it in the house. It's helped. I hope I can lose again.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
