Submitting to insuance tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

I started my journey on Aug. 7, 2013. I finished up all my requirements for my insurance today and my doctor's office will be submitting to insurance tomorrow! They are telling me that I should be sleeved sometime around Thanksgiving of this year! When I first started 3 months seemed like forever... now I wonder if it's enough time to make all the changes necessary before surgery. I'm excited but also feeling very nervous and scared too. I want to lose weight and be healthier but on the other hand I'm afraid to go out of my comfort zone- if that makes sense?!?! So fingers are crossed and praying for approval!

I will be praying with you for approval. I had my surgery on August 7, 2013. I was too having mixed feelings as the days drew closer. I was in denial the first two days. But it was the best decision I have made. I Celebrate my 2months post-op today.

Have u had the surgery?

When I talked to insurance today they said turn around time for decisions is 15 days or less. The WLS program told me once it is approved I have to attend a 3 hour pre op class. They have been scheduling those once a week. After the class I can schedule my appointment with the surgeon and then I will schedule surgery. I am thinking maybe in November. thanks!

My paperwork was just submitted earlier this week. The nurse told me my surgery should be in Nov. or early Dec. I also have to take a pre op class as well. My surgeon requires everyone to do a 2 week liquid diet before surgery to shrink the liver. I started Aug. 7th and I have been on a 1400-1600 calorie diet and I'm down 12lbs so far! I'm excited to start dropping some major weight!!!

Cdunn

My insurance required a 6 month ( minimum) program. It took 2 months

To get into it.

Boy was I irked.

But lookig back on it... It worked out . It gave me 8-9 months to get my mind right. I lost 40 # Pre -op.

And I was on my way.

Just saying.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
