Heartburn/ indigestion

Recommended Posts

Hi , I am almost a year out and down 135+lbs. I had a tough go as a sleever , but learned what to eat and how to adjust. Along with my sleeve I had a hiatal hernia operation. I thought this would solve my heartburn and acid reflux issue. Last few weeks heartburn has been creeping up again and rather painful. Any advice it thoughts? Zantac ? Milk? Tums? Help!!!

My Dr. put me on Prilosec (omeprazole) after surgery.

I was on Prilosec also for the first month. I did find however it wasn't enough to stop it from creeping up on me. I used liquid Gaviscon. I keep it in the fridge. :) hope that helps

I agree with you there. I keep Zantac on the side for more immediate relief.

I have had horrific GERD that, due to a physical anomaly, couldn't be relieved with the surgery. I ate Prilosec and Prevacid before surgery (Zantac never worked for me).

My bariatric GI recently prescribed two Pepcid max 20 mg (this is OTC) before bed, and I frequently take one additional in the day.

This works well for me 95% of the time and, as I as said, I have debilitating GERD.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
