Why are we told to SIP the Water and drink slow? Does anyone know?

HI.. I don't know the technical reason, and actually there is one. but if you gulp your Fluid it will hurt going down, in many cases may also cause nausea. It all has something to do with the valves that open and close when you drink. This probably hasn't helped much.. except to say.. To this day if I gulp my Water it is very uncomfortable

After surgery (regardless of type) you can become nauseous easily, and not tolerate any foods or liquids... This is just a normal side effect of the anesthesia. When you have your stomach worked on, such as with the sleeve, you're even more at risk due to the fact that your stomach is a lot smaller and more likely to be irritated by liquids. Even a small amount will fill you up quickly, and it could be really bad if you got sick after the operation. --a nurse
