Hi there, i am an aussie, just banded on Monday so only onto day 4 at moment. Very suprised by the amount of pain that i have been in and the shoulder pain has been absolutely excruiating :think . Have spent most of my time feeling sorry for myself and wondering what the hell i have done to myself (and paid money for it!!).

Sick of Soups already and really wondering if this is all going to be worth it, i am so looking forward to eating normally!!!

How did you all feel in your first few weeks of banding??????

You covered it pretty well. I felt tired and sore, esp. my shoulder. A heating pad was wonderful for that. I wondered what in the world I thought I was doing when I signed up for surgery. It took about 3 weeks or so to start feeling better.

And now, I am beyond thrilled with my decision and what the band has done for me.

Jacbro,

Totally normal. I had alot of pain also even though I walked constantly, took Gas-X and used the heating pad. sleeping was impossible even in my recliner. I had to force myself to eat some broth because I had zero appetite. This lasted about 7 days and then everything got better . . . much better.

My port site is still sensitive and today I experienced more shoulder pain but each day is better than the day before.

So, hang in there it will all be over soon.

The gas pumped into your body during surgery (to make more room for the dr to work) often makes the shoulder hurt for a while. Most people report having some relief with GasX and heating pads....and time.

Hope you're better soon.....

No kidding, walking helps tremendously. My shoulder pain from the gas left after about 5 days. It wasn't terrible, but certainly not normal feeling. You'll be on 'mushies' before you know it and then you're well on your way to a wonderful new life as a thin person! I am on week 4 now and feel terrific!

What I remember being told is that when the diaphram has had some trauma, like surgery near it, the pain is referred to your shoulder.

I too had was surprised by the pain and time to heal. I also had the same thoughts as you. By day 9 I turned the corner and was feeling better. Today is day 14 and I went back to work and feel better than ever.

Give yourself time. You can do it!

Hi Jacbro.... im a fellow aussie and im getting banded on the 9th March. I remember when i had a lapchole ( removal of gallbladder) in 2000. The gas pain i experiences personally i believe was worse than having either of my children. Im very scared im going to face that same pain again but just to be healthier and thinner will be worth it. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jacbro, Congratulations on getting banded! It is normal to feel sore. Everyone recovers different. I had awful gas pains the first few days, but then each day, I felt better. It WILL be worth it! Hang in there! Gigi:)

The gas thing really is more painful than the surgery, which seems crazy to me. Milk of magnesia helped me with the gas much more than the gas-ex. Just be careful not to take too much then you will be running (or at least walking very fast) to the restroom. Deep breaths also help, as does the walking. I think I will try the heating pad next.

I have found myself much more hungry than I anticipated. I'm on liquids but have no idea how much I should really be consuming at a time. Could be I'm not taking in enough, but I'm scared to drink to much. I guess that all works it's self out. Best of luck to you!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
