self pay, waiting for answer for funding. about to lose it.

Recommended Posts

I'm new here and just needed to vent a little I guess. I am going to ve self pay for vsg. This could be a little long.

A little back ground on my story. My grandparents told me a few months ago they would pay for plastics if I list all my weight. After alot of research and thought, I approached them with allowing me to gave vsg instead. I have already met with my surgeon and have been approved for surgery.

Now I am just waiting for my grandparents to give me the go ahead. I have about 160 to lose and am so ready to start this journey. Yes, I am even excited to start the pre op diet.

This waiting game is about to destroy me. I can't sleep at night. I lay awake and think about information I can give them to convince them that this will be great for me. I can't atop thinking about what I will look like, how I will feel, the things I will be able to do.

Sorry to sound all emotional on you all but you too know what an emotional journey this is. Hoping to get my answer soon ao I can get on the schedule!

And fyi, I hate my insurance for excluding thia surgery! !!

What is the wait about? Are you waiting for your grandparents to give it to you? Are they trying to get it from another source???

They have not made a decision yet on if they are going to allow me to have vsg. They are worried about the risks of surgery. They have talked to one to many people who had gastric bypass when it first came out. That is like comparing apples and oranges. They just don't want anything bad to happen and I understand that. But what is going to happen to me if I don't get the weight off?

If they want someone to talk to who had the sleeve over two years ago, you can have them call me. I don't have all the answers, but I have a few. If you go to my profile and go to the gallery, you can see my before/after pictures.

PM me if you want to proceed.

Thank you PdXman. I appreciate it. If you would like to sent me a pm with anything you would have to say to them I will print and give to them.

That is nice PdXman. Also have them read "the Sleeved Life" or if you have a local bariatric support group as a part of the hospital that's great for family members as well (that's if you're not planning on going to Mexico). Or you can have them watch Dr. Alvarez's videos (Endobariatrics), especially if you choose to go to him.

Oy! That would take hours! I have no idea what their concerns would are.

If you search the site, there are many posts regarding why people choose VSG. Compile everything from those posts would probably get you what you are looking for. There are also threads about why people choose VSG vs Bypass, too, which would be helpful.

Does your sugeron's office do a seminar? If so bring them there. That might help them to learn about ut.

There will be no Mexico travels for me. My surgery will be in Cincinnati.

PdxMan I will do some more looking on the site. I have compiled alot of info so far and given it to them. I feel like I am getting closer. Just hoping that its not false hope. I need this surgery so badly!

If I can think of any direct questions I will definately pm you! I am just ready for peace of mind know that surgery is coming and that I am on the schedule. Them paying for it is my only option. I can not afford it on my own! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Sounds good. FYI, I was self-pay and had mine done in Las Vegas (baby!) for $10,400. My local self-pay was $35,000. :o I would highly recommend my surgeon, Dr Umbach.

I hope your grandparents pay for u to get this. This has been the best decision I have ever made!! I am a much better mom bc of it. Wife too actually. 4 of my girlfriends and one or their mothers got the surgery and are all incredibly happy. Good luck!!

I hope so too. I have been an emotional wreck waiting on them to give me an answer. They are afraid something bad is going to happen to me as a result of surgery. And also that it's not going to work. I had a very emotional phone conversation with them this afternoon and my grandfather told me lack of self control is what made me like this and surgery is not going to fix that. I dont know what is going to happen. I hope that I get to have it done and I hope they give me an answer soon!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
