GERD - Indigestion, Reflux, Lumps in Throat/Chest. Exposition of Symptoms and Treatment.

Recommended Posts

Hi - I saw this topic but I cannot see any of the posts so I hope I am not duplicating any questions.

I am almost one month out after my surgery. I am on pureed and soft food. I feel like I have a lump in my throat all of the time and it causes me to feel like I am almost always on the verge of throwing up. I also have a lot of drainage and my mouth is creating a lot more saliva than I am used to which is adding to the nausea. I was eating cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, etc. but I think the dairy is adding to my phlegm issue. I don't know if it has anything to do with it but I take 40 mg Prilosec every day for my reflux. I am also always thirsty?

I am miserable!

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Chele

I am having major reflux lately. Just talked to my NUT today and was told to take Prilosec OTC once a day for 2 weeks.. and to let them know if things are better or not on Monday.. if not they will direct me to something else...

I have the exact same feeling.. lump at base of throat.. feels like I need to puke... wakes me up at night...

How long have you been on the Prilosec?? A quick call to your NUT/Dr might be in order...

The Prilosec should be helping with any reflux etc but it sounds like you are experiencing the slimes. My husband and I were sleeved the same day about 16months ago. He still has the slimes issue from time to time but I prob only experienced it once or twice. They say it is caused by eating to fast or by foods that no longer agree with you since the sleeve. Go back to basics make sure your not drinking anything 30min before or after meals, slow down your eating and make sure you are chewing properly. Also start monitoring the food you are eating. For example take cottage cheese out of your diet for 2 full days and follow all of the basics. If it still happens put the cottage cheese back in and take out the yougurt. It might take a little while to eliminate what the triggers are but hopefully by doing this it will help you. Also make sure you are getting all of your fluids in and sip slowly. You could be dehydrated and then when you eat the food won't go down properly. If none of this works make sure you have kept notes on all of the things you have tried and make an appointment to see your surgeon and let him help you. If the discomfort is to bad make an appointment to see them ASAP. Hope this helps

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
