Surgery tmrw / having second thoughts

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded tmrw at 4pm and I am having some serious doubts! What if something goes wrong or I develop and blood clot and have a stroke? Why if something goes wrong with the band? Or I get this and don't lose weight? There are a million things going through my head right now and all I wanna do is cry!! Someone please talk me down from my hysteria!!!

I have been right where you are and believe me it is worth it! Just remember that everyone is different and you may need no fills or you may need several fills. It took me to 8cc's in an 11cc band to find my green zone. You will have frustration but you will get through it. The band was the best decision I made. I am 4 months out and down 45 pounds.

I'm two weeks post-op today and my entire process went quick - only was thinking about doing this in early september, called the doc who called the insurance company and in less than a week I was approved and my surgery was scheduled!!!

I keep asking myself, "if only" about many things, because having your abdomen cut open isn't a small feat - it's freakin HUGE!! But, if you are anything like me and tired of always thinking about my weight and everything I put into my fat face - and tired of my thunderous thighs that make it virtually impossible to walk down the beach and just plain tired of being fat... well I don't know a better solution - and I've tried them all.

This is a tool - the reason not to put that crap food into your face :) this is the start of the rest of your life and a year from now you will be all the better.

I can not speak for everyone, but the pain that you go thru this should be reason enough for you not to make bad choices and to feed yourself well - all without the hunger.

I'm only two weeks post-op so I still don't know what I don't know, but at this juncture - I'm IN IT!!!

Not sure if this helps at all - but you certainly are not alone. Let us know how it goes. If you want more details of my past two weeks ready the "1 week since surgery... posted by Kimmy89 - I have some good details of my recent experience.

good luck!!

First, congratulations! I never looked into the pros or cons of any WLS. my lung doctor told me to get the band, made the appointment and I didn't find this site until after the band. Regrets-yes, why wasn't it recommended years ago. I love my BAND!!

I almost backed down, why, because I was scheduled for 2pm and was taken at 7pm. The woman before me, the sleeve, had problems. My doctor said, do what you want. I am so happy I went with the band. My health has turned around. No meds except the Vitamins and minerals that you need to take.

I now love going to the gym. I can walk around BJ's without being tired.

Good luck!!

Arlene

Calm down Clementine...I worried about all of those things, too. Nothing happened to me, neither will anything happen to you. The band is going to change your life in so many great ways, just take the focus off of your fears and think about you have to look forward to in the coming months.

I think we all have those fears.. I almost backed out a couple of times but I kept telling myself that I had to follow through for my health..luckily I had not been on the internet much researching.. because frankly some of the stories on here now would scare the beejesus out of anyone contemplating the band.. I will tell you since being banded my life has done a 180 degree turn around.. no more diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol.. I can walk.. around everywhere.. I don't stop all day .. I can ride my horses again and take care of my house.. what a liberating feeling to not worry constantly about what I eat and if it's diet friendly,, etc. I eat what I need and try to eat healthy.. I have not regretted getting my band for one minute.. the first week or so is mentally and physically challenging but you will come through the other side with a new lease on life.. Hang in there and keep us posted...

I almost ran screaming out of the hospital on the day of my surgery. I was up all night the night before questioning every decision I made. I'm so glad that I didn't cancel it. So, remind yourself of all the reasons why it will be great and try not to dwell on any negativity. You'll be great :)

You seem to be young and healthy (except for the extra weight, I assume). If you do not have major illnesses you should cruise through the surgery just fine. You will be surprised how close to normal the banded life will be.

If you have issues with food portion and control you made the right decision. This also went through my mind before my surgery but I just asked myself: "do I want to continue my life like that??", and as my answer to this was "no" I knew that I did the right thing. I hope this helps.

My thought process was just the opposite. What if I develop diabetes, heart disease, have a stroke, develop blood clots due to sitting on my ass all day, can't walk? The chances of developing blood clots or failing with the band or having something go wrong, pale in comparison to my other choices.

Sign me up and stick a fork in me. I'm done and ready for the band.

Try not to worry about the "what if's" worry about what is. You are overweight and long term as you age that can wreak havoc on your body and your life if it hasn't already. We know we have all been there.

Any surgery is a risk, but focus on the positive and we will all be here to support you and pray for you and offer good wishes for a speedy recovery. The first few days are rough, but you can do it.

Fear can be crippling don't let it take away your power.

I wish you all the best! Let us know how your doing!!

The night before I went I couldn't sleep because I was so excited! Is it weird I never had a doubt in my mind or a what if? I knew either way I could die and this was the better decision. :-) you should weigh the differences between not having it and having it...I bet having the lap band wins. Good luck to you and remember whatever happens was going to happen anyways. You will do just fine and LOVE your new life!!!

Thank you so much everyone you made me feel a lot better! I'm still nervous but I'm definitely going to go through with it! I know I have the will power and determination to "beat the bulge" especially with the help of the lap band, and you guys!!! I'll see you all on the other side!!!

And again thank you so much for your words of encouragement this site was the best thing I could have stumbled on to!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
