Stuck or stretched pouch?

Recommended Posts

Hi, can I get some advise please. I got my first fill a week ago tomorrow,I had 1.5 in at surgery and got 3 added. But tonight after having dinner I feel awful. Burning chest pain and sore shoulders. I feel like I need a massive burp. Have I just eaten to quickly, or do you think I have so,etching stuck. Will my pouch stretch because of this? I'm in agony! How can I resolve it? I've been banned since 22/9/13. Thanks

You should call your Dr. and ask them to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your reply, yeah I am currently drinking hot tea hoping that pushes it down. I haven't been sick, feel like I'd like to be but I'd be scared incase my band slipped! (I'm such a newbie at this)

Did this happen while you were eating?

If it were me, I'd go on liquids for a day to give your stomach time to relax. Getting stuck often causes swelling that leads to more stuck episodes and swelling. Going on liquids a day can allow the swelling to go down.

If after a day of liquids you still feel stuck, I would give your doc a call.

Good luck.

I find that when something gets a bit stuck on me it's usually from not taking a small enough bite, chewing well enough or eating too fast.

Warm tea/coffee usually does the trick to help things relax in there and help the food pass and digest. If you don't feel the food pass or the pain your in subside you may need a tiny bit of Fluid unfilled to help open the stoma and let the food clear. Then liquids for a day or so to reduce any inflammation that might be there.

Even if I have a small stuck episode that doesn't last long, I will stop eating what ever it was, and then rest my band for the next meal or two just so I don't irritate it but that's just me.

Drinking or eating will only compound the episode imo. You'll only pack the bolus of food tighter. Wait an hour and it should pass. Then go to liquids, cold preferably. And, of course, call your doctor or nurse if they have after hours access?

Also try standing up and walking around. Gravity sometimes helps me in that situation.

If you are truly stuck, then sip some Water standing over the toilet and it will all come up...since the Water you drink has no where to go and only over fills the pouch....

Just my opinion, but the majority of posts I read here from people saying they're stuck, I do not think they are really stuck....when you have a stuck episode, you will know it!!! Nothing will go down if you could swallow at all....which is next to impossible to do with all the slime and mucous accumulating, working it's way back up and out....

You can have food stuck without anything coming back up and Water still able to go down.

I'm also quite sure people are generally smart enough that if they say they're stuck, then they're stuck and it's no one's place to question what they are feeling regardless of how it compares to our own stuck experiences.

Just me here but I might get a bit graphic and it might be gross but I have had some pretty bad stuck episodes , I try not to get them but sometimes my band says ,you did not chew well enough or you took to big of a bite and I wait 15 in then I try to take a SIP of Water , if it is really upset at me then I am over the sink or toilet for about 5-10 min. and everything happens the slime and I mean slime , mucus , teary eyes and runny nose happens so this is MY experience with stuck episodes and sometimes I get signals of when to stop eating but then there are ties I don't get any most of the tie I do though so I stop , like I have said this is just me talking about me , I don't know about you and others experience unless posted .

I keep pinapple juice on hand in case I get stuck. Don't know what it is about pinapple juice but a couple of sips seem to do it for me!!! Hasn't failed me yet. I've only had a few usually from chicken or beef not chewing enough times .everytime I eat I try to remember how miserable and hopeless I feel when I get stuck and it motivates me to CHEW CHEW CHEW!!!

I find that if I stand straight up and raise my arms in the air it helps me get unstuck faster

Thanks for the replies. Spoke to the clinic nurse today as I am still suffering and she reconds it's trapped wind, which I do agree with. I feel like I desperately need to belch, but can't seem to do it? She advice wind tablets, which I have took, but still not feeling 100%. Any suggests how to get a good belch up? Should I drink something fizzy? (Kinda scared to? )
