Congrats on your upcoming surgery. :) I am not a lifeguard so I can't say for certain but I am guessing that being only nine days out from surgery is not going to be enough recovery time for you to return to work. Never mind putting on a bathing suit, being a lifeguard is seriously physical work that requires a lot of strength. You have to swim, lift, carry, bend, twist and so forth. Do you think that you can do all of that, that soon after major surgery? I don't want to come off as a total jerk here but ask yourself, if you were in a perilous situation and needed rescuing, would you want the person coming to your aid to be nine days out from surgery and possibly not fully physically ready to be doing the job?

Maybe you should sit down with your supervisor and have a conversation with him/her, let them know what you are planning and why. Tell them about the length of time you are going to need to fully physically recover and get back up to speed and see if there is other work that you can be doing, in the meantime. :)

Congrats on getting the band. I know when I got mine a year ago July, I couldn't go in the pool (I live in a condo) for 4-6 weeks. Best to check with your doctor. Every doctor has their own rules for everything

I didn't tell a lot of people then or now about my band. Not their business. I also don't share how much I weighed or how I have lost with anyone including my 2 sons. This way they don't have to lie when asked. I am private about how large I was.

Good luck, Thursday is my wedding anniversary, so you picked a good date.

Aside from the possibility of you not being able to physically help someone if the need arises (and that is a biggie) I would think the chlorine in the pool would be an issue since your surgical incisions will not be fully healed. As your doctor ASAP

In this case i think your employer has a right to know about your surgery if you're going to be entrusted with potentially saving others lives. Also, you may want to ask your surgeon when you can return to work, ie chlorinated pool, rescuing people.

And at work, I'm sure you signed a contract regarding performing duties.

I agree with the others, you need to talk to your doctor before attempting to go back to work.

Most doctors won't allow baths (being submerged in water) until the incisions are fully healed because of the infection risk. This can take a good 4-8 weeks. There is also usually lifting restrictions for the first 4-6 weeks post surgery. Between the two, there would be no way you could do your job without putting both your own health and others' lives at stake.

Did you speak to your Doctor & Employer about this? What was the outcome?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
