Exciting new changes are coming to LapBandTalk

Recommended Posts

I'll be honest, Alex, combining the forums makes me nervous. I understand from the 'business' perspective, but does that make it best for us? I trust you and and knowing that you are a Bandster eases my mind. (I Just needed to voice my concerns).

I look forward to the new changes (& being able to blog again!!!).

Thanks for the update. :)

I have no reason not to believe Alex has our best interest at heart. But I gotta say mixing lap band with other surgeries makes me nervous too. I just know non banders are gonna come over and mock us. Maybe not at first, but ultimately they will (I think). Maybe I am just being negative though and things will be fine.

I very much appreciate all you do and have given us, Alex. I'm sure some days you feel more like a babysitter than a forum founder and it's important you know that all your efforts on our behalf don't go unnoticed. I am extremely grateful for this forum and all you've done.

I have to be honest, like others, I am nervous about these changes coming. I made Lap Band Talk my "home" because it's a safe place just for us bandsters. The thought of being thrown into a mix with all WLS patients seems like a situation just begging for conflict. The other thing is admittedly selfish on my part- but I really don't care about other WLS besides the band. My concern is for other bandsters and their needs. The experience or problems of someone with the Sleeve or Gastric Bypass is not my concern. I also don't want to be put in a position of constantly defending the band or countering band bashing myths. We have enough struggles within our own ranks already and I fear a combined WLS site will greatly diminish our sense of community and comradery and well as force us to go on the defensive.

I know without a doubt you're making these changes because you truly believe they are in everyone's best interest. I know your intentions are nothing but good. But, even so, the changes worry me greatly.

Thanks for hearing me out

Your concerns are my concerns. I plan on personally moderating the Lap-Band forums. Members that don't follow our rules will be permanently banned. We will have zero tolerance for bullying, rudeness or trolling.

I have never been there and it doesn't sound like I missed anything the way people talk about that place. If this place turns sour it will be hard to come back. But Alex said he won't let that happen...

PS: Looks like we posted at the same time Alex. Perfect timing!

So oddly I got a bunch of e-mails today from Alex, about en-rout by pass and sleeve gastrectomy for the WLS boards...but nothing about lapband...are these boards even live yet?

We sent the same email to all members of our four wls communities (LapBandTalk, VerticalSleeveTalk, RNYTalk and SleevePlicationTalk). The new site BariatricPal isn't live yet. We're hoping to go live tomorrow night.

I will not allow any abusive behavior on our new forums. Bullies will be banned permanently. You know I'm always available and will deal with any bumps in the road that may arise (I'm sure they will!) We've all suffered similarly but have taken different paths to get to where we are today. Does that make one person (or procedure) better than another ? I have no problem with intelligent conversation or even arguing about the efficacy of any weight loss procedure. I will have zero tolerance for trolls or trouble makers. The weight loss surgery bashing from weight loss surgery patients (AND surgeons!!!) is what has given bariatric surgery such a bad name. If anyone feels they are being targeted, they know where to and how to reach me. Things will most definitely change....I'm hoping they're for the better.

Not to purposely preach here but just rise above it gang. Most people do not like change but change is always inevitable. Nothing ever stays the same. Look at WLS for example. Bypass and Band were always the top options for WLS and now band in a lot of ways is being bumped by the Sleeve. Use the report button if you find problematic posts. Do not stoop down to the band bashers level. Be yourself and help keep the newbies informed and let Alex and his team do the needful. Remember each surgical procedure attracts its own "band" ( see what I did there?) of detractors or haters

OK, getting down from soapbox....Be gentle I lost a lot of weight and bruise easy. :P

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
