Feeling really well, on liquid diet, do not really notice much in weight change so far. How long does it take do you have to wait for your first fill to lose weight? Any one out there just recently having had surgery?

thanks for replying, congrats on your surgery! I know it will be a while but I can drink a protien shake like normal, it does not take me 30 minutes. not exercising as of yet prob will wait a month to start any of that.

There is no average or standard for how much people lose before first fill. Most fills take place 30-60 days post op. It can take several fills before you feel any kind of restriction or extended satiety. Fills don't make you lose weight. Eating fewer calories than you burn makes you lose fat.

Congratulations on your surgery. Please remember, which is hard for all of us, that right now is a time for healing. Weightloss will eventually come, but your body is in a state of shock right now and it will take some time before you start to see the scale move. I remember being in tears a week after surgery and seeing that the scale was going up and I was still on liquids! My best advice, don't focus on numbers, focus on healing. If you haven't already done it, takes some measurements. I do this monthly and it's nice to see that the inches that continue to come off when the scale may not be moving. It all takes time and patience, but it will happen!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
