Band removed (what diet should i try)

Recommended Posts

dont diet..just eat better foods...get rid of junk food. things out of boxes or fast foods

eat veggies/fruit and lean Proteins.......and as tara said, calories are vital

3500 calories is a pound whether it is ate or drank

if you eat/drink more calories than you burn off, you will gain weight

No I'm in Ireland we don't have much backup. There is no plan for me. I don't have any more money for any other operation so diet and exercise are now my only option. I thought sticking to the likes of slimming world would work but it's not and I'm afraid if I keep at it I'll just gain and gain

Have u looked into the Myfitnesspal.com? that should help u :)

I really do wish you the best. It's probably going to be harder to lose and take longer too.

I use myfitnesspal to track calories. I've logged every single day for 10 months. I actually have more guilt about not logging than having a cookie. I have found myself getting out of bed at night to add something I might have forgotten.

Hopefully you can find the mindset that you had when you first got the band. That feeling that you can do it.

Hi all I had my band removed 4 weeks ago I have gained 1 stone roughly since it was removed I have been on the slimming world plan but still gaining. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions would be great.

HI

I had my band removed in Sept 2013. Im finding eating very low carb and eating mostly meat and vegetables is working for me. I use my crock pot a lot; I eat stew, scrambled eggs, chicken, salad. I find that fat is also important. It helps with feeling satisfied. But you still have to be careful to not over do it. You might find recipes you like at http://www.health-bent.com/

I have their cook book, but they have a lot of recipes on their site.

One I love is avocado stuffed sweet peppers topped with bacon. They are crunchy, filling, satisfying.

You seriously need to find what you like to eat and figure out how you can eat some version of it that will not make you gain weight.

For interesting info on how the body works (how and why it stores calories as fat) look up the ketogenic diet. It is a diet given to children who have seizures.

http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/aboutepilepsy/treatment/ketogenicdiet/

My surgeon recommends a mix of Mediterranean Diet and Ketogenic Diet.

You can see some You Tube videos from Dr. Robert Woodbury from Healthy Steps, here:

There are 14 short videos so far.

I hope this helps! We're all different in terms of what works. If you try something and it doesn't work, try something else! And never give up!

In my opinion, Mediterranean diet is the best and it's mainly since it has all ingredients that your body may need at any stage and in any conditions. If you don't know what kind of recipe is the best for you, then take a visit to the site of Gourmed to find recipes that are fit for your health, budget, season, age and of course taste.

Polly - my heart goes out to you. I recently had my band removed due to a slip. I had horrible pain, vomiting blood - just awful. Like you, I was discharged and sent home without a real plan. The comment - "well, you know how to eat now, so this should not be a problem". HAHA..BS..I knew how to eat when I got my band, I just chose to eat too much and the wrong stuff. My band stopped me from doing those bad things and now it is gone. I feel empty (and not from food). I am trying very hard not to put weight on, but it is impossible. I am walking, writing down what I eat, not drinking with my food...the whole deal, but I am up about 5 or 6 pounds and I don't see an end in sight. It has been less than a month since I lost my band and I feel lost ! I don't know if I will be able to get any revision since I am not exactly fat anymore. I do still have the plication that I got when I got my band and that is supposed to help me..so far. My stomach feels bloated and I am not being a good girl in the food department. I see my doctor again next week and I am really hoping he can give me some type of guide to get me through this dark tunnel I feel I have entered. I had my band almost 3 years and it did work..now, I am not sure what lies ahead. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. You aren't alone in this one.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
