I don't have gas oain anymore. Its sharp' date=' shooting pain at my port site that comes and goes. And when I stand or move the port hurts and feels like it's being ripped out. I feel likw this is normal pain from what I have read here...[/quote']

I am going through the same exact thing with my port area. Looks like its gonna be a Vicodin night. Ouch!

I'm so glad I saw this comment. I too, have been having severe pain at my port site. I was stupid and went back to work after 4 days, and I think that sitting, and bending and all of these things that you do when you don't even realize your using your stomach muscles have aggravated it. It is a sharp stabbing pain that takes my breath away. I had been off of my pain meds, but am now back on them. I'm ok through most of the day, but by evening need to take something. I'm glad to hear that this is common. I was really worried that I had torn something and was very concerned about internal bleeding. Ice has been helping as well. Good luck. Hopefully only a few more days of this, because I'm getting bored out of my skull sitting around the house.

Try wearing a sports bra. It really helps. It seems that the bra (underwires) restricts mobility and presses into the port area & causes several "Ouch" moments.

I hope your pain is better now. I used a heating pad to help with the pain. There were a few nights after surgery that I wanted 2 heating pads. I slept in a recliner for a couple of weeks because if I tried to lay flat I had sharp pains at my port. Heat really helped me and I hope it is helping you.

Yes the pain is 100 times better! Heating pad, walking and my pain meds definitely helped. I didn't need to take anything except Tylenol yesterday, for slight discomfort. I go in for my post op appointment today so I'm excited for that. Thanks for all the support everyone!!

Thanks for the responses. That makes me feel better. My surgeon typically does not give out narcotics for pain control but I requested it. Well my norco is out and I called the office for a refill to get me through a few more days and they said if I am still hurting that bad that I need to come in for an appt because something is wrong if I am still hurting this bad on day 8 (this was on voicemail). When I got the vmail it was after 5 so I think I will just call today and be seen if they think I need to. Im pretty sad because I am starting to feel weird about my surgeon's staff but I just got surgery sad.png oh well I will keep you guys updated!

What kind of looney toon surgeon doesn't give out pain meds after a surgery????

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
