Made it through week 1

Recommended Posts

Well today marks 1 week. I must say I was starting to regret my LBS on day 4 and 5. I can say that I wasn't truly prepared for the post op and like many others thought after 3 days I would be back to my regular routine. Yesterday was better but I kept getting nauseated as I moved around a lot. I received 3 different post op diets by the day of my surgery and little guidance from my doctor. So I am making it work. I wish I found this forum before LBS. I would have been better educated and mentally prepared. Through it all I found a new LBS sister that I met at preop and found on here! Next year at this time I will be enjoying my new way of life and encouraging someone else.

Well you already have encouraged some one else -- me! I am five days pre-op and it's good to read these posts from others who have gone through the process so recently. Sorry you have not gotten the clarity and service we all want from our medical professionals. We really do have to be our own advocates, that's for sure, and need to educate ourselves continually. This forum has been so great for that. I really do feel ready. Hope you continue to feel better each day -- go slowly and take it easy! Best wishes.

I will say this for the site, I found it just before being banded. A bit late for many questions to be asked but I was very lucky to have a great surgical group, so both my husband and I were prepared for our surgery and how we might feel afterwards and we knew that each of us would be different and our experiences would not and were not the same, but this site helps me every day.

It's not something my husband is into much at all, but it helps me tremendously to be able to share how I am feeling and doing on this journey and by being motivated and inspired by all the awesome people that take the time to share their journey here.

From the pre-banders to the post banders to the veteran banders and everywhere in between, being a part of this group for support has really been that for me and my husband as well because you KNOW I go home and share it all with him!!! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
