Am I the only one who's scared "you-know-what"-less

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I guess I'm afraid of the unknown here. I'm going to the seminar next weekend, and from there going to start the process. I know it needs to be done, but seriously, even though it's laproscopic, I'm still scared s***less about having surgery. I haven't gone under the knife since I was a young boy, and I'm already nervous, even though the surgery is going to be several months out.

LoL. It's normal to be worried, after all, it IS mayor surgery... You'll be fine!

Trust me you're not the only one. I freaked out and tried to negotiate my way out of the waiting room. Thankfully I stayed.

I'm going in next week for minor back issues and getting twilight sleep. And that even has me freaked out.

Some of us just HATE being unconscious. I'd much rather be awake through things- I know sounds strange, but it comes from having woken up during my wisdom tooth extraction as a teenager- and being held down and put back under. Seriously weird experience.

It is normal to feel nervous! I did for sure. About a 2 weeks beforehand I got a panicked, OMG what am I doing feeling. Remember, you can always back out...but you won't want to. Once surgery is over, it will hurt, but trust when I say each day gets much better. And you'll be on major pain meds when you get out. I was banded on a Monday, back to work by Friday (but I'll be honest, it was too soon. I should have waited at least a week or maybe 10 days, but I am a teacher and move around a lot). My c-section was far worse.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
