Had to be there at 6am. Surgery was scheduled for 7:30 and I was discharged around noon. Woke up very very nauseous! They had to give me two doses of meds before it helped. And they said it would knock me out, but I just couldn't get comfortable. The gas pain was horrible at first! It was hurting my back and and I felt cramping. No incision pain though. Abdomen feels like I did 1000 crunches! Getting up and down is difficult and bending over won't happen yet. I believe my abdomen is pretty swollen as my belly button has seemed to disappear. Drinking 4 oz of liquid every hour and just took my first dose of maalox. So overall, not bad so far!

Your barreling right through it all mel. I didn't move after surgery other then to get into the recliner and didn't sip a thing other then a few ice chips until the next day.

Keep up the good work and feel better soon!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Thanks for all the detail. I go in next week and it's so helpful to hear specifics of what others have experienced. Take good care and isn't it great that the long-anticipated event is over!

I had to go to Walmart on my way home for liquids. I hated that, but I think it did help me to get up and active as soon as I was able. I had almost no gas pain. My biggest pain was caused by throwing my back out before surgery. It made it twice as hard for me to move. Keep moving and doing your deep breathing and coughing.

Mel, I love your comment about 1,000 crunches... I feel exactly the same as you do lol. Gas pain hasn't been horrible, started using Gas-X and a heating pad on my back as soon as I got home yesterday and I think that has helped. Took a few hours before I could take a deep breath and I think that was because of the gas. This morning, it sounds like the civil war is going on in my stomach :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
