I love ground turkey, and have no issues eating it. But I rarely eat a plain turkey patty. Not because I have problems with it..because I don't care for it that way. I make various dishes with ground turkey or ground beef, with added refried Beans, other types of beans, tomatoes, etc. I find most all meats much easier to eat when they're lubricated (for lack of a better word) with other things. One of my favorites is a ground meat, mushroom, onion & garlic Pasta Sauce, which I eat without Pasta. LOVE it, and it goes down easily. I recently tried it over some spaghetti squash, and it was great!

I substitute ground turkey for ground beef in recipes all the time. Just be aware of the fat content. It's a common misconception that all ground turkey is healthier than beef and that's not always true, in fact some is actually higher in calories and fat than beef.

Just read the labels to be safe and enjoy :)

I saw a recipe for "Spaghetti Squash Bolognese" and it looked fantastic...I am going to have to try this. Without the squash (or pasta) it's probably a lot like an Italian Chilli?

I buy this three cheese Pasta Sauce in a jar at Trader Joe's. I sauté garlic, onions and mushroom with basil, then add ground beef & cook it all together. Then I drain it, and stir in the Pasta sauce. I add some parmesan cheese, and whatever salt, pepper, a splash of sugar to bring up the taste to my liking, and it is GREAT without pasta. It's way different than chili, but it's meaty and mushroomy......and goooood. My husband loves it, and we don't miss the pasta whatsoever. But my neighbor turned me on to spaghetti squash last week, so I'm going to put some over that.

I've found the leanest ground turkey (all white meat) isn't that great. But there is another one that is something like 7% fat, and that one works really well. The ground beef I buy has the same ratio of fat, and though it would be too dry for hamburgers, it's great for various concoctions.

I usually do read the labels, plus I buy my turkey from fresh market or whole food. I use to love ground beef, but I find the turkey taste better to me. I also like salmon pattie too....yummy.

I have a problem eating ground beef....Dr. says that is very common....things like ground turkey, tofu, etc...may be an excellent alternative to red meat for nutritional value, but they go to great lengths to make it the same consistency as ground beef...therefore keeping it difficult for me to swallow.

It's not What something is, but texture, Fiber it is that matters with me and my band....

Awww, sorry about that. Once I'm banded I'll see if its hard for me to swallow as well. I hope not, since I love turkey so much. Thanks!

You're not really doing yourself any favors if you substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for ground beef, UNLESS you use ground turkey/chicken breast!! I never use ground beef anymore, and I prefer ground chicken breast to ground turkey breast because it has a softer texture.

I add Water to the pan to keep it from sticking while I'm "browning" and then drain it just like you would ground beef.

LOL! Months back, when I was in the beginning of my post-op diet progression, I'd read posts on here about what people were eating. OMG - I would salivate!

In the beginning I avoided oil, too. But now, when I make a big pot of whatever, I use some oil to sauté the onions, mushrooms and dryer ground meats. Given the amount of oil I use, compared to the number of meals that come out of the pot, it really doesn't add up to much.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
