I had mine taken out at the time of surgery. I wasn't having any problems, but there were some stones. It was pretty much a given that it would have to come out sooner or later.

Someone told me, that people end having their Gall Bladder removed after Weight Loss Surgery. Is this true?

It can happen to anyone who loses a significant amount of weight. I ended up with a case of pancreatitis about 6 months after my band was placed. Subsequent testing diagnosed that there was no evidence of any disease or stones; my gall bladder simply had stopped working.

Why or when my gall bladder stopped working will never be known, and the surgeon felt that my weight loss simply amplified the problem so it could be discovered.

It is not a difficult surgery to recover from should it be necessary.

I had mine removed many years ago so I didn't have to worry about it.. but today they simply suck it out your navel.. nothing like the brutal surgery I had...

I am wondering how many people had to have their Gall Bladder removed during or right after WLS.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
