Shireen 0 Posted August 28, 2004 I'm having a hard time drinking enough Water. Before the surgery, I drank lots and lots of water. I mean like 3 quarts a day. Now, I can't drink more than a sip at a time. I feel like I'm swallowing air and I burp and it's painful. Will this get better with time? I've only been banded for 5 days. I'm afraid to do anything physical that involves sweating because I don't want to get dehydrated. Also, anytime I drink anything with calories, broth, juice, gatorade, I get gas bad! Will this go away too?
Banded14yr 2 Posted August 28, 2004 Have you called your doctor yet? The gas is normal (I think) I had awful gas that didn't fully go away until about 2 weeks post op. The drinking part would bother me a little. Could it be that your stomach is swollen causing restriction to the point where you're having problems drinking? It's normal for your stomach to swell after surgery, that's why you get to drink fluids for a while afterwords. But I would definatley call your doc and see what he says. Hang in there!! La_madam 20 Posted August 28, 2004 Shireen I had the exact same problem you are normal this is from the swelling..tha pain you are feeling is gas trapped in your diaphram from the swelling, it causes painful burps or it sometimes feels like burps are trapped in there. My Docotr told me don't worry It does get better with time and he was right ... I noticed a difference 3-4 weeks post op. The gas is not from the liquids I dont think Shireen,I think it is from the surgery..5 days post op you will have gas I had gas from surgery for about a week to 10 days or so. It is caused from the co2 they used for surgery, most of us experience the gas after surgery. Try some Gas X and walking is great to get all those gas bubbles movin and out! Good Luck to you..It does get better
New Hope 37 Posted August 28, 2004 I found the Mylican Baby Gas Drops worked great. Walmart has a generic for them (about $3). Yes, walk. Walk around the a/c house as much as you can. You don't have to work up a sweat. But the movement will help big-time with the gas and pain. You are a new bandster. It will get better, day by day! Best of luck to you!
