I am looking into having my band removed (several reasons) Anyway..do doctors do the removal and sleeve (or similar) during the same surgery?

If you don't mind my asking, why do you want to remove your band?

I agree with Missy, it depends on the condition of your stomach and the level of complication you have and how experienced your surgeon plays a role as well.

Having a band removed and Sleeved in one surgery requires a highly skilled revision surgeon. Leaks are at a greater risk with Band to Sleeve revisions moreso than with virgin Sleeves.

Also, BE AWARE that Band to Sleeve revisions have a LOWER success rate than virgin Sleeves, so before you remove your stomach for nothing, make SURE you research the Sleeve in its entirety before you get it done and once you get your stomach removed you can't turn back regardless if you like it or not.

I had my band to sleeve revision at the same time. Thats how my dr does all of his revisions. In fact, the day before surgery I asked him what my chances were of waking up without a sleeve. He said "nil". If there's some damage, they take out 85% of ur stomach anyway. If ur stomach is damaged more than 85%, u wouldn't be doing a revision anyway.

If u have any ?'s, feel free to pm me!

Good luck!

I agree that it would depend on why band is being removed. When my first band was removed it was because stomach and spleen were adhesed and because they had to separate them and use staples they removed band so no foreign object would be there. But I would think if you have no complications and you just think sleeve will be better it probably wouldn't be a problem all at once but I would sure want to know my surgeon's experience and success ratio. Surgeons here in pa love love the sleeve. If I could have done it all at once I would have but I also didn't know enough about the sleeve at that time

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
