Pgx and the band

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery in 2006, lost 110 lbs in the first year, and have gained back 75. I am considering trying pgx to help get back on track but am worried about mixing pgx and the band. Anybody have any advice or experience they want to share?

Hi. I am sorry you had a weight gain. I never heard of PGX. Have you thought of going back to your surgeon and dietitian for help? They maybe the best people to help you get back on track.

Good luck.

You don't want to use PGX. It's a Fiber capsule meant to expand in your stomach to create fullness but with the band, you really don't want anything expanding in your stomach. You'd be at risk for a slip.

I agree with dylanmiles, you should be going back to your surgeon for help, not trying useless diet gimmicks and pills.

I haven't used PGX, but even if you do go to the expense of buying all those supplements, you're still going to have to eat less, exercise more, etc. Why not do what dylanmiles above suggested......go back to see your surgeon? If you get back on track & use the band as you did before, the weight will come off.

Thanks everyone - my gut was telling me the same thing so your input really helped. Unfortunately my surgeon is not around anymore and quite frankly he was useless with the post surgical care. There aren't a lot of lapband physician options in bc and my understanding is that most are not taking on post- surgical patients, because let's face it - the money is in the surgery not in the post surgical care.

My band is as tight as it can go without completely blocking things. Problem is that I can't get the 'healthy' food down - it gets stuck. So I tend to veer towards higher fat options because they are easier for me to eat ie can't even swallow bite of apple but I have no probs with a slice of Apple pie. chicken breast no, chicken thigh no problem. Would love to hear how others are handling since it's unlikely I will get in to see a doc or nutritionist any time soon.

It's really important you find a bariatric surgeon. I know it can be hard, but your health depends on it. Right now, you are clearly too tight and are having soft calorie syndrome and weight gain as a result. This is explains why you've gained back 75 pounds.

Plus, you're putting yourself at serious risk for complications.

Tighter isn't always better when it comes to the band, in fact it can be dangerous to your health and sabotage your weight loss.

well, if you can eat apple pie just cook yout apple till soft with nothing added. We all know the bsnd didnt make us loose the weight it was the deacation to eatting right that did plus excerise. I want to eat the great tasteing stuff and do once in awhile when out but I dont allow anything in the house that I shouldnt eat. Even on Holloween I make the kids keep there candy art school.I love being thinner but I cant be trusted, will power wasnt never my long suit so this is how I need to do it for me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
