Im so confused! Help!

Recommended Posts

So I was pretty sure I wanted the lapband. I had my first consult with the surgeon and told her my plan to get the lapband and she told me because of my bmi of 48 she recommends the rny.

I'm 28 yrs old, 287 lbs, bmi of 48, type 2 diabetic & pcos. She said that the lapband would not help with my pcos. Which sucks because I want to lose the weight and eventually be able to conceive. I also didn't want the rny because of the very rapid weight loss thus increasing the amount of skin sag.

I'm so confused. Has anyone else experienced this? What are your opinions? All opinions welcomed!

My doctor was on board with the lap band from the very beginning but i've heard many others suggest, and I would agree, dont let your doctor push you into anything YOU do not want. If you are not comfortable find another great doctor out there. Do your research and figure out what you want to do for you. I was 280 when i started my journey to have the lap band but I do not have your medical conditions so I cant help you with that. Im sure that there is someone here who will be able to help you with that.

Good luck whatever decision you end up making!

The first surgeon I saw told me the same thing- I had a BMI of 72 and was too big for the Lap Band. He also told me RNY was my only choice because I'd never lose enough weight with the Lap Band.

I found a new surgeon. One that believed in me and would respect my choice of the Lap Band because I sure as heck didn't want RNY.

I got my Lap Band 21 months ago and since then I've lost 232 pounds- and I'm still losing. I've lost 89% of excess weight so far and couldn't be more thrilled.

You can lose as much with the Lap Band as you're committed to losing and willing to work for. You have to do what is best for you regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Best wishes on whatever you decide.

How much did you lose in the first year? That's amazing!!! Congrats!! I've been doing tons of research & I'm pretty sure I'm going with the band! I have Cigna so I have to do the 3 month supervised diet. But I'm still excited no matter what!

Initially, I was going to do a bypass, but the surgeon talked me out of it. I had a lot in common with you, a bmi of 48, pre-diabetes and pcos symptoms, he said that since my problem is just over eating, (not just junk food, but ALL food) that the band would be better for me. Perhaps you should go for a 2nd opinion?

Thank you!! She said she still would do the lapband but just recommends the rny. She's one of the best in my state and told me to think on it. She gave me books to read as well. I've been doing my research though, and still have my supervised diet to do but I'm going to pray and hopefully I make the right choice!

At one year, I had lost 178 pounds.

If you're doing research, you're already ahead of the game. Going into any weight loss surgery informed is s important.

Good luck :)

Have you had surgery yet? If so, how has it been?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
