Is there a Rants & Raves Anonymous thread for those who have become addicted?

Recommended Posts

May family thinks I need intervention. Everytime one of them comes into my office and sees my computer it's open to LBT, usually Rants & Raves.

I started out taking in just one thread at a time. It seemed harmless enough. I found it fascinating. It was wonderful at first, reading people's thoughts and ideas. Once I mustered the courage to post openly, it felt so good to be able to state my thoughts and feelings in such an open forum. I got a kind of high from it even though my other work suffered.

I vowed over and over to always be a nice, kind person, but when someone disagreed with me and threw angry barbs at me, it hurt. I found myself throwing barbs back even though I knew the futility and ugliness of it. But no matter the pain, being able to say what I thought felt too good. I NEEDED the posters high!

I'm hooked. I don't know how to reverse the damage and keep from incurring an even deeper addiction. I've seen what addiction can do to some posters. They're posting on every interesting site! They must be surgically glued to their office chairs. How do they manage to take it all in and continue to have a normal life?

Help me man. I don't know how to quit you!

I see your point. And another plus is that we don't have to watch the food commercials on TV while we're entertaining ourselves here.

I get up, check the new posts... read a while and then get juiced up and start adding my two cents. The next thing I know it's time to scare up some supper for the DH and I don't know where the day went!!

it helps to know that there are other people going threw the same things and having there input.so i think its perfectly normal to spend the time reading and writing in the forums.better to be addicted to the forums than FOOD!!!!!!!!!

BJean - discussions with anyone who must have the last word will never end. Sometimes it's better to ignore the worm on the hook and go hungry. :)

I'm not addicted to RnR. :paranoid

Very atypical for me. Generally I ignore those portions of messageboards with a very studious effort. This one is different. For the most part, everyone there is very respectful (difference #1) and educated about what they're saying (difference #2), and enjoy lively discussions with people who are different (difference #3). For us "thinkers" (aka analysts, etc.) that's very hard to walk away from. :)

I'm sure I have a Gummy worm laying around here somewhere. Those are an old vice of mine. Though by now, after a year (to the date, today is my surgery anniversary!) of being holed in my drawers with pens, paper, and whatever else is in there and fuzzy, it's probably more of a gummy caterpillar.

Hmmm, a yummy Gummy caterpiller... just the thing to hang on to in times of trouble. You just never know where your next meal is coming from.

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

I have eaten 4 Cookies while reading some of the posts of you-know-who earlier. I am happy to have participated though because I have learned a lot from people like you. My waistline, on the other hand.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
