Have not lost not even one pound since my surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I had my surgery October 3, I have not lost any weight, a week after my surgery I had to go back to see the Dr, because I was not able to take anything down and I was getting dehydrated, they removed all my Fluid from the band. A week later I went back and I got a fill of 3cc on a 10 cc band, I'm having my 3 meals a day. Protein veggies and drinking only Water, don't know what I'm doing wrong, I'm also tired. I'm going back on November 1st for another fill. I just wish I could've lost something. I'm getting my self scare that the lap band is not going to work for me. That it was just too good to be true! I need your opinion.

My first 3-4 months after surgery were very frustrating for me also....I even gained weight after my first fill of 4 cc's....

I was very frustrated and felt I wasted my time with all the preparation and build-up....Dr. and staff kept assuring me not to worry, we will get you there..indicating the Green Zone chart on the wall....

Then after my 3rd fill, 3 months after surgery...BAM! Did it ever come...took me a good 2-3 months after that last fill to figure out what was happening and how to adjust my eating, my food choices, and my behavior to exist with the band....I feel many people would not have dealt with it as long as I did, but I'm glad I did....because every since then it has been the EASIEST, most EFFORTLESS thing I could have ever done..ALL my excess weight slowly melted away at a steady weekly rate until my body reached what it considers my optimum muscle mass and fat %....

That was over 2 years ago...have not had a fill since, and the ease of living this new lifestyle is as good today as it was when I finally found that perfect balance of Band fills, eating techniques with choices of food, and plenty of exercise....

So yes...your situation is common...for those first few months, untill the band begins doing it's job....remember, the band is adjustable...meaning you do have a say as to where and how you want to work with it...

IMO it is sad may people back down and choose to live with it 50-50 band and good old fashioned will power and dieting...there's not much to say when they "Fall off the wagon"....

I agree with b-52. I did not lose weight my 1st visit. I have never had these huge weightlosses that so many have in one month. I think that I lost 5 at the most. But, I lost 100 by my 1 1/2 years. I will Celebrate my 4th year next week. It can happen for you, but you need to follow your surgeon's plan and not worry! Best wishes.

Exercise is the key.... no matter what your eating or not eating ... Drinking or not drinking. If your not burning calories.... you will not optimize your potential with your band.

yes..dont worry-you just had surgery. Its not going to fall off. I just hit my year mark and on my 11th fill just now... I am FINALLY getting some feeling of restriction that many talk about. It may take a few months but also know it may take much longer for the band to start helping you like you feel it should. My loss has been very slow but feel now with a little help from my band...it should go a little faster...at least I hope so. At any rate...I am at a better place than I was a year ago and despite slow loss..it is a good way to do it. I am happy for each lb that leaves my body. Be patient and it will happen as long as you do what you are suppose to do..just keep plugging away at it :)

I'm losing inches and not weight. Yes it's a step in the right direction, but it would be nice to see the scale reflect my efforts. I've lost 4 dress sizes since my surgery in August. I'm not giving up, but just wishing the scale will catch up to my inches lost lol :)

you have had your band 23 days and expect to have lost? a lot of people do but I am sure your doctor explain this is not a quick fix..Your body needs to heal, you need to learn to eat beter this is a healing and learning period. Give it 6 wks to heal and a fill any then you should start seeing the loss....Be patient it will come if you follow the rules.

I have to agree with all the other posts....it actually takes some time to start losing....I only wish it started melting off from day 1. I personally did not see any weight loss more then a few pounds for almost a month and 1/2. After I finally did start losing I was plateauing every 5 or 6 pounds (sometimes would take a few week to a month to lose again)..even to this day I keep plateauing every few pounds. Last week I got a fill and lost 6 pounds right off the bat....now have stayed the same weight for the last 5 days..not even a lose of a few ounces since then. It can be frustrating at times....but don't give up.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
