Homie Dont Play That

Recommended Posts

When I get a fill my dr sticks the needle in and has me sit up and start drinking Water as he is filling the band. I tell him when I can feel it coming up and he gauges how much to fill with my feedback making sure I can swallow , drink fluids etc. I have never had the above problem. So sorry to hear so many do. Has to be miserable!!!!!

If I tell you what happened you'd probably think im in Canada.... The surgeon comes pokes me and doesn't find the needle. She says she gonna get the other guy and I tell her to leave it IN. She takes it out.... It takes them about 15 to come back to tell me they are out of needles and have to send for some from their warehouse. And I'm still here puking & in pain.

How are you doing today? I hope by now you're home and resting after this ordeal. Did you actually get a bariatric Dr? It might have been easier for you to go to the ER in NJ.

Hey, y'all!! I didn't respond sooner because I was in a morphine-induced haze the whole day [Friday]. What an ordeal!!! Don't even know where to start! Maybe I should start with the fact that the first doctor that tried couldn't find the spot went to get another needle and came back to tell me that was the last one (did I already say this??) anywayyyyy, they said I had to wait till 5am for the warehouse to open. While I waited, doo-doo hit the fan a couple of times: it was excruciating when the pain meds wore off but my nurse was an angel- and I told her so. So 5 am comes and goes, I lost tract of time. Then they were talking about a cat-scan to make sure there was no relapse, when they already had said there WASN'T.... I told them they can do WHATEVER they wanted (even a GYN could come and give me one of those pleasant examinations) AFTER I was emptied and not before (there was no way I was gonna let them waste more time) at a point I was so frustrated I even got up from the stretcher and told my nurse to print out my discharge papers, that I was gonna go HOME and die- I didn't intended on dying there. (LoL) that was just a tactic and it WORKED. So God knows at what time (my phone had died at this point and my charger was in the car) two more guys came with needles and since my port is a bit tilted the couldn't find it. FINALLY, they went to get the head of bariatrics (it was about 7:30am) and he found it instantly. Immediate relieve!!!!!! At this point I was so scared because it had been more than 12hrs, that I BEGGED him to empty me out completely (funny how we change our minds in a matter of hours) I was discharged at 8am. I got dressed and went to the waiting area, not wanting to call hubby back, who had left just a few hours before (and who was in the same hospital the day before having lithotripsy) but I was still pretty drugged up. After a while I asked if I could go back in and sleep it out on a stretcher and I was allowed. It felt good to finally sleep because all that time I wasn't able to get any shut-eye, even with all that morphine. I slept for 4 hours until hubby woke me up with a HUGE smile.

Thank you so much for caring guys, you are definitely cool peeps!! The hospital I was in is Maimonedes in Brooklyn. I really am NOT bad-mouthing them because I love that hospital for many reasons- they are the best thing in BK. They were just unprepared and I guess these things sort of happen. I have to be on liquids for two weeks, or so they say. Monday I call my surgeon and tell her all that went on.

Maimonedes in Brooklyn is a good hospital, I'm surprised they couldn't get their s#%t together quicker!!! I understand they don't come upon this type of situation every day but seriously they should be smart enough to consult someone in the know!!

So happy you are on the way to feeling better!!!!

Holy crap! You'd think they'd have someone who knew how to do it. I really think we as patients should be trained in how to unfill in case of emergency. I travel out of the country quite a bit and can't imagine getting stuck in another country. I'm very cautious of eating outside the U.S. with my band. It bad enough to have to go to the doctor's in another country for something non-band related. This summer I was in Greece and got constipated. They don't have CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, etc. They have Pharmacies run by a pharmacist with nothing OTC (other than suncreen and lotion). So the pharmacist had to take my whole medical history before I could get anything- and I ended up with an disposable enema to take home for $6 U.S. Yes seriously. No milk of magnesia, no Miralax, etc.

I'm glad you know, Carol, and I would go to them (and DO) in a heartbeat again (for anything other than bariatrics) but to be HONEST... They should have been better prepared.... They HAVE a weigh loss program there O_O

Teaching patients to do unfilled is NOT a good idea... I'm sure you know WHY

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
