No Urge To Urinate After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else has this problem? I can urinate just fine but my body no longer gives me that "need to go" feeling. So I just go empty my bladder periodically throughout the day. Told my surgeon and he said that has nothing to do with the surgery. Well Mr. DR. my pee-pee wss fine before you stranguled my stomach. So I am calling the urologist.

Yes, go see the doctor about it. I don't have to as often as I did, but I attribute that to the change in my eating and drinking habits. Not feeling the urge isn't normal after the surgery. Keep us posted.

Have your gas pains gone away yet?

Same thing has been happening to me! Haven't had the feeling of "busting" even if I don't go at all during the day so, like you, I just sit on the toilet and have a marathon weeing session hahahaha

Will do. Gas has not gone away. It's not as painful as last week. Good thing is when the gas pain comes it does pass shortly thereafter. But my back is killing me!!! I wish I could go get a massage but I can't lay on my stomach. :(

If you are taking pain medication it can give you urinary retention or the inability to urinate or know that you have to urinate. Look up the medication you are taking and see if one of the side affects are urinary retention

I was just about to say this exact thing, this happens to me when I'm on pain meds... except I have a really hard time peeing as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
