Encouragement for all nervous newbies

Recommended Posts

Hi all!!!!!!!!!

I figured I would give a little back, as I often use this site. Although I am still new myself I would like to share.

I was banded on Feb. 5th.

Yes, I hurt, had gas pains, port site pain, shoulder pain, tenderness, fatigue, hunger, sleep-less nights, food envy:hungry: , diarhea, Constipation, food getting stuck (do to stupidity), productive burps! and constant wondering if I was/still am taking in enough food!! (Thats all I can think of right now):faint:

Guess what? I;m OK there were times when I thought, "what did I do?" Now I say "I'm glad I did!"

Yup, I'll be only 1 month out soon (March 5th) but I can honestly say to all that I feel good!!! It took a while. But all of that passes. This is a learning experience.

We are fortunate to have had others go before us that are willing to share.

If anyone has any questions I will try to answer. Just remember, sometimes it is scary..... but it will just take sometime.

P.S. You will see me on the board asking questions too!!!

P.S.S. I lost 10lbs doing pre-surical diet:D

PSSS so far have lost 19lbs post-band:clap2:

Ready To Lose,

You just made me feel like I'm right on track. I lost 10 lbs on the pre-op diet, and I've lost 16 lbs since banding.

Haven't had anything get stuck yet, no PB's yet. Really, NO problems to speak of. My port site still hurts a bit, but only if I twist or bend wrong, or the cat steps on it....LOL!

I agree with you, I'm more than happy to share my experience with anyone who wants to know, if it will help them in their journey.

Thanks for the post!

I started at 358. It isn't hard to lose, if you have ANY self control at all (I don't!)

If your doc is biased toward Gastric Bypass (and lots of them are) then consider checking out other docs.

If you don't mind them chopping up your intestinal tract, then there is nothing wrong with bypass - but if you do (and I sure did mind!) then get a doc who is willing to work toward getting what YOU want.

I had to fight with my insurance company - cause there was some study that showed some stupid short-term result about by-pass losing more than the Band - but that was a short term result.

Call a few other docs.

Good Luck!!!

Yeah! This makes me feel so much better. I was banded by Dr. Rumbaut on the 15th of Feb. I finally get to eat solids! Thank god! I had some cottage cheese today...what an experience. I don't think pre band, I ever chewed cottage cheese. I'm so motivated though! I started walking again. I walk along the waterfront with my daughter and dog. It's so peaceful, I've missed it. I'm thankful for this web site, reading what everyone else is going through, and that I'm the same!

Love to ATV:

I do think that most doctors go more towards RNY. Just remember it is your CHOICE.

This is not hard. Though there is work involved.

I am happy that I chose the lap band. It was the proper choice for me.

I started at 250.

Any loss is a good loss.

Just remember, this is about you and your choice. Dont worry........it will come.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
