Recommended Posts

I've had some small episodes before but ate 2 small flour tortilla and was stuck for an hour or so and it hurt about a 5/6 out of 10. Was his a bad episode? It was the worst I've had!

The other day I had some baby carrots ate slow and chewed very well and got stuck anyone have a problem with carrots.

I am not at the green zone yet, so I'm not over tight. (4.25 in a 14cc band)

I found out the hard way with carrots! Even though I chewed and chewed, I got stuck. No more of those for me!

I can only have a few carrots if they are steamed or boiled real good ,NOT RAW ONES EVEN if they are small as I get stuck and hurt and the pains start .

I've been stuck on both a tortilla and carrots in the last month. I just didn't take small bites and I ate too fast. Even chewing a lot won't help if I follow one bite with another.

can't do carrots either.. tortilla's I haven't tried.. wonder if they are kinda toasted if that would be better... I love making my own burrito's or enchilada's but have not done that since being banded..

I couldn't swallow carrots even before the band! And the thought of trying to swallow some tortilla makes my band tighten just thinking about it. (I put mexican food on lettuce leaves and eat it like a lettuce wrap.)

Was my stuck episode of an hour plus, a long episode by your (all responders)standards?

yes I think an hour plus is a long stuck episode.. I have had about 2 times and they were very short.. I cannot imagine how painful for over an hour.. They say if you drink pineapple juice it will dissolve the food in there and let it pass.. I have not tried it but it might be an idea if you get stuck again...

Malikone,

I've had hundreds of stuck episodes and each one lasted 5-60 minutes. The majority lasted 30-45 minutes. Lately, I've been quite tight in the mornings and have had several that lasted 60 minutes.

I know why I get stuck. I eat too fast and too quickly. It usually happens in the first 2-3 bites so I'm not concerned my pouch or esophagus is dilated. I stop eating, wait, and then try to finish what I started. When I start off very slow and small, I have no problems.

I wouldn't be overly concerned with one 60 min episode unless you see other symptoms? Just pay attention in the future or else you will repeat.

Hope my miserable band experiences help you avoid more of your own.

tmf

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
